Trousers? Some really nice wide leg trousers, with a chiffon type top or cover up. Great if a bottom half isn't the same size as the bust. Failing that wrap dresses work well. I'm guessing she's not keen on her upper arms (age thing), so a sheer fabric is really flattering. Shoes, have a gander for low wedges or flats (brands that's spring to mind are Tamaris, pavers, hotter, M&S). What colour are the flowers? Mothers of the groom often go for a tonal, or something in the same hue, but not matching. Raid charity shops (go to a posh area), eBay (look for phase eight, Hobbs, Autograph, simply Be, Roman Originals or whatever shop she likes but could never afford full price), check for a refund policy and always read the description for defects. Supermarkets can have some really good stuff, at the right time, but the quality of fabric won't be as nice.
Don't be shy, try stuff on, return it if she doesn't feel comfortable in it. Also Hats/fascinators in charity shops are normally under £15 max. I honestly believe people can look stunning for under £50, I rarely spend over a tenner on a single item of clothing, and I'm picky (used to work in retail, so I've dressed my fair share of wedding guests, of all sizes and ages. I would always want a person to feel confident, clothes can make a world of difference).
Edit: Summer is a good time to buy off season on eBay, don't let her fret, plenty of time. Look for a petite range.

More on reddit.comHi! I hope this is the right forum for what is essentially a wedding attire question: My 26 year old daughter is getting married. I am 73 - I had her when I was 46 (with a lot of high-tech help!) I don't look my age mostly because I've been using Retin-A since age 19 (now that's a long story!) and so I have virtually no wrinkles, not even crows feet. Not bragging - it's just true :-) Of course, all you have to do is look at my neck and you'll see I'm no spring chicken ha ha, but in general I'm told I look late 50s. But I'm not. I'm 73. (I color my hair - no gray for me. It adds 10 years. Are you picking up on some vanity here?! Me and my sister, both).
So what kind of wedding gown do I wear? I don't want to look like her grandma, but I'm not wearing anything strapless or one shoulder or anything like that - I don't think. (Remember the neck!) Although my sister did wear an off the shoulder black gown when my nephew got married, and she was 63 then. I'm just not sure what I should be aiming for. It's in August in South Carolina (!!) so it has to be cool, but it's also a Saturday night, formal thing. Sleeveless is fine; I do like cap sleeves but I feel like I'm 10 years old with short-sleeves.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
