Go in bios and turn your memory frequency down 200 MHz from what it is and that should work. I had the same issue with some games. I went from 3600MHz to 3400MHz and I don’t have any issues and no loss on performance Answer from TBow109 on reddit.com

Solved: Q-Code 41 - 42 - Republic of Gamers Forum - 1070576
January 15, 2025 - I am getting code 41 - 42 and sometimes goes up to 43 when playing games but mostly stays at 42. On the manual itself I cannot find the meaning. Sometimes my RGB fans turnoff and go on standby mode, not sure if this is connected with same error.

PC Restarting with Error ID 41, zero bugcheck code
Hey folks, My PC has been doing random restarts with Error ID 41 in the event viewer with BugCheckCode 0. There's no BSOD accompanying it. It had been happening sporadically for a few weeks whilst I was on Windows 10. It can happen in a variety of games, though some produce it more regularly... More on forums.tomshardware.com

How to Fix Code 41 Errors in Device Manager
August 2, 2024 - If this is a newly installed device, check the manual to make sure everything is connected in the correct fashion to the appropriate connectors on the motherboard. For external devices (i.e., connected with a USB cable), try using a different cable. Use System Restore to undo recent system changes. If the device was previously working, undo any recent changes to the Device Manager by using System Restore. Roll back your drivers. If the code 41 error began after updating a particular hardware device, reverting to an older driver version of that driver should help.

How to Fix Error Code 41 in Device Manager in Windows? - MiniTool
November 28, 2022 - You may meet error code 41 because the device isn’t connected properly. Thus, you need to make sure that the device is properly connected. If the device is inside the PC, check to make sure all connections are firmly in place and all connectors are properly connected. If this is a newly installed device, then you need to reconnect it by checking the manual to make sure everything is connected to the corresponding connector on the motherboard ...

Event ID 41 (Kernel-Power) only tells that Windows detected an unexpected/dirty shutdown. In this scenario, the DRAM LED on the motherboard and the fact that the issue changes when RAM configuration changes strongly point to a hardware problem, most likely memory, memory configuration, or power/board-related.

Use Event ID 41 only as a symptom and focus on hardware isolation as in Scenario 3 from the documentation:

  1. Treat this as a hardware stability issue (Scenario 3)
    • Event ID 41 with gaming load, black screen, and DRAM LED, and no clear bugcheck code typically indicates a hardware problem rather than a Windows/software issue.
    • According to Scenario 3, when Event ID 41 appears without useful bugcheck data, the common causes are power, memory, overheating, or platform/firmware issues.
  2. Disable any overclocking or aggressive profiles
    • In BIOS/UEFI, reset everything to defaults (no CPU overclock, no RAM overclock/XMP/EXPO, no GPU overclock).
    • Ensure the system is running at JEDEC/default RAM speed and voltage.
    • The documentation explicitly recommends disabling overclocking and verifying if the problem reproduces at correct speeds.
  3. Systematic memory checks
    • Because the DRAM LED lights and the system behavior changed when using a single stick, memory is a prime suspect.
    • Follow the guidance to “check the memory”:
      • Test each RAM stick individually in the same slot under gaming load.
      • Then test the same stick in each memory slot to see if a particular slot is faulty.
      • Use a memory checker (for example, bootable memory test) to stress the RAM.
    • Verify all memory modules are running at the same speed and correctly configured.
  4. Check the power supply and power path
    • Scenario 3 highlights that an underpowered or faulty PSU can cause random restarts without a proper bugcheck.
    • Even with an 850 W PSU, there could be:
      • A defective unit
      • Bad PCIe power cable or loose connection
    • Reseat all power connectors (24‑pin ATX, 8‑pin CPU, GPU PCIe cables) and, if possible, test with a known-good PSU.
  5. Check for overheating and platform stability
    • Scenario 3 also recommends checking for overheating:
      • Confirm CPU and GPU temperatures under load are within safe limits.
      • Ensure all fans are working and the case has adequate airflow.
    • Since the DRAM LED is involved, also inspect the motherboard physically for any visible damage around the DIMM slots (burn marks, bent pins, debris).
  6. If running in a virtualized or clustered environment (not your case)
    • The documentation notes heartbeat-based restarts in Hyper‑V/VMware or clusters, but with a physical gaming PC this is not relevant; focus on physical hardware.
  7. Use the event log only to correlate times
    • Event ID 41 confirms the time of the improper shutdown.
    • Also check for:
      • Event ID 6008 (unexpected shutdown)
      • Event ID 46 from volmgr (Crash dump initialization failed!) which would indicate dump configuration issues, not the root cause.

If, after disabling overclocks, thoroughly testing RAM (sticks and slots), verifying PSU and power connections, and confirming temperatures, the issue persists, the remaining likely culprits are the motherboard (memory controller/slots or power delivery) or the PSU. At that point, replacing or testing with known-good RAM and PSU, then the motherboard, is the standard next step to avoid “blind” replacement.

r/gigabyte on Reddit: Need help – Error code 41 on Aorus X870 Elite Wifi 7 (DDR5
August 30, 2025 -

Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my build: while working, my PC suddenly froze. Since then, I can’t get it to boot. Here are the details:

Motherboard: Aorus X870 Elite Wifi 7 (DDR5)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9800X3D

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5 CL28

GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5080 Prime

Error shown: Code 41 with the DRAM LED on

What I’ve tried so far:

Removed/reseated RAM sticks

Tested different RAM slots

CMOS reset (removed battery for several minutes)

BIOS flashed to latest version (July 25, flash successful)

Still stuck on code 41, with no display output. If I remove the RAM completely, I get code 21.

Does anyone know if this usually points to incompatible/defective RAM or a CPU / memory controller issue?

Thanks a lot for any advice.

r/buildapc on Reddit: Q Code 41 on ASUS Maximus VIII Hero after ram upgrade
January 18, 2020 -

Today I upgraded my RAM from G.Skill Trident Z 8GB (2x4GB) 3200 to G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (2x16GB) 3200. The timings are 16-18-18-38 on both kits.

When I try to turn it on, it doesn’t post and displays Q Code 41 (which isn’t in the MOBO manual) and it boot loops.

After a little bit of that, I tried both sticks in the single slot and it didn’t work either. I’m not really sure what to do now.

EDIT Full Specs: MOBO - ASUS Maximus Hero VIII CPU - Intel I5-6600K Cooler - Cryorig R1 Ultimate GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 970 PSU - Corsair CX750M Storage - 1 TB WD Black 1 TB Seagate Barracuda RAM - G.Skill Trident Z 8GB (2x4) 3200

EDIT 2 Resetting the BIOS helped. Thank you guys!

August 12, 2020 - So I have been struggling with random restarts with no blue screen for about 3 months. Windows Event Viewer would always just show error 41. This would happen almost always in a game or in VR. I RMA'd the Motherboard, Processor, Memory, and Power Supply during this time and still had the same issues.
