My daughter is past the age of being interested in things like Disney cartoons, although some animated movies like Sing and the Despicable Me series still entertain. I've tried to get her interested in movies from the 80s that I grew up on, but most of them don't seem to catch her interest - and honestly some of them haven't held up that well. She is a little on the scaredy-cat side, so movies that venture into the creepy won't be her thing. And Marvel movies haven't been a hit either, maybe too boy-action-packed? Obviously, something like Harry Potter should be up her alley, but for whatever reason she feels like she's heard all about Harry Potter from friends already. She did enjoy The Princess Bride with us as a family over summer vacation. So, what do you recommend for someone who is kind of past the purely kid movies, but not really ready yet for teen+ movies? What would catch the interest of a middle-school, pre-teen daughter? What classic favorites from the 40-something parents' childhoods have been a hit with their kids around this age?
