Hi everyone,
I just bought a Ryzen 7 9800x3D with an MSI X670e Gaming Plus Wifi mobo.
During first boot the CPU debug light went red. I was expecting this since the CPU is quite new and mobo BIOS is probably not to date. So I tried flashing the most recent one on my new mobo.
It's not my first time, it usually goes fine. I use an old Imac to format a 4Gb usb key to FAT32, download new bios, rename the exec MSI.ROM, put on the key, plug it on the flash USB port and hit the flash button.
Problem is, the red light start bliking but never stops or acclerate or slow down. It just keeps blinking for hours
What should I do ?

I have the mother board MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS I tried updating the bios using MSI center but it took over an hour so I figured I would just turn off the pc and use the bios flash button (I know it's a bad idea but it was stuck) now when I try to flash the bios the red led keep flashing and the dram led is on but it's still taking forever more than an hour I tried downloading an old bios into the USB iam using the fat32 format changed the name of the file to MSI.ROM and I even took all the parts off (CPU, GPU, ram, ssd) but still nothing works is it dead or is there still hope
Hey guys, trying to use the flash button on my Mag Mortar B650M.
I downloaded the file and put it onto a USB drive and renamed the file MSI.ROM.
I stuck it in and press the Flash bios button and the white LED blinked for a bit, the PC turned on, but now the LEd is just solid white.
All the videos online had a red LED, what does this mean?
I'm trying to do a bios update on my 550 A PRO so that it recognizes my Ryzen 7 5700x. I made sure my flash drive was FAT32 and the bios was in the root. I also renamed it to MSI.ROM as instructed. From what I've seen the flashback is only supposed to take 10 minutes max, so what do I do now?
What should I do? USB is 2.0 and 4gb.
I'm trying to flash the bios of the MSI Z690-A Wifi Motherboard and when I pressed the flash bios button the led only flashed for ~15 seconds before turning off. Does that mean the flashing worked or did I do something wrong?
I was tearing my damn hair out trying to make my motherboard flash the new BIOS (regardless of version as long as it supports 3000 series).
Like a lot of you guys I had issues where I knew I was doing everything right and following the instructions but it still wouldn't flash and some people had to switch usb drive, but if you are like me and only have one usb drive in your apartment and want to save yourself a trip to the store this is how I fixed it. If this turns out to be an actual fix for peoples flashing problems somebody should really make MSI post this along side their instructions!
Simply put it seems like you need to restore your USB drives to their original state (I won't pretend to know what that means but it seems like regular Windows formatting doesn't do that and so no matter how many times I formatted it would not work). I have a B450 GAMING PLUS but I think it should work with all your Tomahawks aswell.
To fix this follow these instructions to restore your USB; https://www.pendrivelinux.com/restoring-your-usb-key-partition/
(Just follow the instructions for Bootice and make sure its FAT32 as file system).
Use this tool to do it: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/bootice_64_bit.html
It worked instantly when I plugged it in. I really hope this helps guys I was so happy to finally get it working and wanted to share the solution for me and hopefully for you too! V18 worked for me only because that's the one I had downloaded.
EDIT: Unfortunately, as is with all things AMD and MSI, the story doesn't have a happy ending. I keep getting Windows crashes on a fresh install and it's just crazy, can't even download Ryzen master or anything. Really disappointed in all of this, especially MSI.
This is what is required for the BIOS flashback feature:
-
Create an MSDOS (MBR) partition table - this is probably what you mean by returning to its original state. I believe Windows 10 defaults to a GPT partition table. I can confirm that this will not work with BIOS flashback.
-
Create a single FAT32 partition
-
Rename the BIOS file MSI.ROM and copy it to the USB flash drive.
-
Plug ATX and CPU power cables into motherboard. Don't connect a CPU, GPU, or RAM.
-
Plug flash drive into the designated USB port (see manual, back panel shows a white box around the correct port - it's next to the BIOS flashback button)
-
Turn on the PSU and press the BIOS flashback button. If it works, it'll repeatedly flash red for a few minutes and you'll see activitiy on the USB drive. If it dosen't work, it'll flash red for a few seconds and then turn off (this is what happens with a GPT partition table).
This sadly did nothing for my issue. problem i have is that when i hit flashback button it would flash on and off the led for 2 mins then it would stick on red led next to the i/o i just cant seem to flash any bios at all with this feature i need help badly
After inserting a USB with MSI.ROM into the correct port and pressing the Flash BIOS button, the PC boots with the Flash BIOS LED blinking. After 5-10 minutes the PC restarts automatically with the Flash BIOS LED solid red.
Does this mean that the flash was successful or a failure? I ask since I couldn't get my motherboard to POST after switching from a Ryzen 3600X->5600X and tried flashing the BIOS to fix that. Now it won't post with either the new OR old CPU!
For reference, my motherboard is a B450 Tomahawk Max and the debug LED is stuck on CPU.
I'm trying to flash the bios of the MSI Z690-A Wifi motherboard and when I clicked the flash bios button the led blinked for ~15 seconds and then turned off. Does that mean the flash worked or did I do something wrong?
I have mpg x870e carbon wifi with 9950x it will not boot red and orange light turns on
Im trying to do a bios flash I downloaded the file from https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MPG-X870E-CARBON-WIFI/support I went to properties click unblock then unzip the file renamed it to MSI.ROM made sure my usb is fat32 32gb copied it and when i click boot it flashes 8 times and stops I tried everything single thing but it wont work
Guys I need help right now I have an MSI B550 Torpedo and I’m trying to flash it so I can use my Ryzen 5 5600x cpu but the bios light stays on and not flashing. Should I wait like an hour to turn off the system since I know it’s bad to turn off while bios process is going on.
Tried to update my BIOS using MSI Center but it won't boot and gets stuck on CPU in the EZ Debug LED, so I tried flashing back my BIOS. Everything I have tried has been unsuccessful so far. I used three different USB sticks, a 16gb stick I found lying around my house, an 8gb stick that I have used before to install Windows and do BIOS updates using MFLASH and BIOS Flashback, and a 64gb stick from a friend who also used it to install Windows and do BIOS updates on an MSI motherboard. All three sticks are formatted to FAT32 using MBR partition table.
I've tried clearing the CMOS, reseating my power cables, using a much older BIOS, removing everything and plugging only the ATX and CPU power cables, but nothing worked--BIOS flashback led still blinking forever. After removing and plugging only the ATX and CPU power cables, I kinda noticed that the IO heatsink gets really warm. Any ideas?
My relevant hardware:
MB: MSI MAG B550M Mortar WIFI MS-7C94 version 1.2
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x
PSU: NZXT C750 80+ Gold
RAM: 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix 3600 MHz CL16
Also: I already considered to get warranty or RMA, but the unit is more than 2 years old, and the warranty module on the MSI website tells me to contact the shop I bought it from, which unfortunately has been closed for at least a month or a few months now lol unlucky
I have a MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi and I’m trying to flash the bios for the 5600x. I plug in the usb with the latest bios from MSI’s website and the led starts flashing. The led doesn’t stop flashing though even after 20 minutes.
The USB is formatted to be fat32.
