January 27, 2019 - TL/DR: If your MSI X99 Motherboard is stuck at A9 and won't post...power down, unplug ALL external USB devices except keyboard and mouse...let it boot. I couldn't find anything on the internet, so I am posting here so folks can find it. OK - yesterday I had the weirdest thing happen with my motherboard (MSI X99S Gaming 7).

April 3, 2016 - Check out this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/2r070h/how_to_fix_the_bios_a9_error_on_my_gb_x99_ud3_mobo/. I'd recommend that you try those options - disconnect the GPU to see if you'd be OK with th on-board one; try resetting your BIOS (you can do that by removing the CMOS battery and placing it back in); try updating your BIOS if possible.

April 30, 2022 -

So I have a asus Maximus viii hero motherboard and when I got on today it sent me to bios with the error code a9. Everything in the pc seems to be on and it boots to bios but I can’t do anything else. Everything I saw online either didn’t help or I don’t know how to do. Are there any simple solutions to fixing this problem?

r/buildapc on Reddit: Mobo stuck on Q code "A9" at startup/No signal on monitors
May 17, 2020 -

Hope you can help, been through most steps I know. Build below.

Symptoms:

When I power the system on, everything lights up and the board runs through POST. After a while, the board settles on Q code A9, which in the manual is "Start of Setup", and remains in this code indefinitely.

Everything powers on as far as I can tell: case fans and GPU fans all run, cooler LEDs light up, etc. However, at no point is any picture displayed on the connected monitor. The monitor displays "no signal."

Here's what I've tried:

  • Tried HDMI and Display connectors, on two different monitors.

  • Eliminated faulty GPU: plugged it into my current machine and get picture as normal.

    • (The X99 mobo doesn't have onboard video, so I can't just plug straight in.)

    • Also swapped in my current machine's Geforce 1080 and still got no signal as well.

  • Tried putting the GPU into another PCIE port, with the same results.

  • Tried the "Clear CMOS" reset. This changed the code at startup to AE (which is "Legacy Boot event"). I then flashed back using the driver I found here, and we're back at A9.

    • (I also renamed the BIOS file on the flash to "X99MWSSE.cap" per instructions in section 3-1 in in owner's manual)

  • Tried holding "delete" during power-on on a plugged in keyboard, to see if that would change the behavior. It didn't.

  • Put the support DVD into the optical drive.

Thanks in advance for your insight. Really hopeful for a solution because this is a present for my dad; I can't afford to re-buy a mobo at the moment.

r/ASRock on Reddit: 'A9' Code - Boots Fine, Black Screen when Entering Bios with Del/F2 Keys X570 Taichi
January 15, 2021 -

This build has been an utter nightmare. I think I have torn it apart about 15 times due to various faulty parts or necessary upgrades. However, the motherboard and CPU are the only non-confirmed stable parts since those are the only new parts in the system and everything else was rock hard stable.

Rig boots just fine and does it run fast. BUT the only way for me to functionally get into the BIOS is through the Windows repair options on an advanced restart. If I use the keyboard shortcuts while the system is posting it takes me to a black screen and the bug code reads out 'A9'. If I use the Windows feature it boots right into the BIOS config, no problem. Any ideas?

I have tried resetting the CMOS before and after re-seating the GPU, turning Freesync on and off on my monitor, trying HDMI and DP connections, and power cycling the system.

January 9, 2024 -

So before all this started my pc was working fine decided to turn up my ram MHZ and then my pc started turning off and on tried flashing bios by using the button on the back but no dice I decided to turn off unplug the pc and take out CMOS battery and it reset my bios setting returned it to factory settingsand it started working again fixed one but another pops out its A9 I automatically boot into bios every time I took out the gpu and tried to see if anything was wrong nothing everything is clean I moved around my ram and the code still pops up and I removed my hdd and it still popped with A9 code. I don’t have another set up to try the pieces individually.

I have run out of solutions from searching google and don’t know what else to try except to remove CMOS battery and see if that works Specs: Cpu: RYZEN 9th Gen 5950x Ram: T force 32x2 64GB 3600MHz GPU: aorus Geforce rtx 3080 Ti Motherboard: ROG Strix X570-E gaming

Google is your friend. Its much faster and more accurate than asking randos on reddit. https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1043948 If CODE is A9,it means the computer has entered into BIOS If the monitor is abnormal, please follow below steps to troubleshoot: a.  Please make sure monitor is powered on normally and check the indicator light of monitor is on to ensure the power cable of the monitor is connected correctly. Make sure the external power cable is powered on normally. Please try to switch on, switch off, check if monitor can display. If you switch off and switch on the monitor, monitor shows ''no signal'', it indicates the monitor is powered on normally. b. Confirm that the signal cable(VGA/DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort) is correctly connected to the monitor, also confirm that the other end of the signal cable is connected to the display output (graphics card) of the computer. Try to re-plug the two sides of the display cable and confirm that all pins are not bent. c. Confirm that the display output of the monitor is correct. For example, if it currently connected to the computer via HDMI interface , you should choose the display output of the monitor as HDMI display output. d. Replace the same kind of cable (VGA/DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort) to re-test e. Connect the monitor to another computer, confirm output of the monitor is normal to eliminate monitor problem 2. If the monitor can display BIOS,please follow Troubleshootings for Boot up device abnormal , comfirm if the hard disk or SSD is abnormal

[SOLVED] - Keep booting to BIOS, QLED code A9 and/or A0 | Tom's Hardware Forum
September 24, 2020 - Here's the spec for reference: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/jXvWGX I started to have intermittent issue where it doesn't boot correctly. sometimes it boots to BIOS, or shows BSOD, or shows INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error, or get stuck at ASUS logo. In BIOS, it reads all components correctly. (SSD, HDD, Rams) I'm running windows10 on it. Whenever that happens, I checked QLED code and sometimes it shows A9 and sometimes it shows A0.
