Hello everyone, I unfortunately have a serious problem with my motherboard. I own a MSI X570 MAG Tomahawk Wi-Fi motherboard and today I tried updating BIOS through MSI Center. Unfortunately the BIOS Update has been stuck at 0% for one hour and the screen seems frozen: neither CPU temps nor CPU RPM numbers change… I don’t know what to do. Can anyone help? Thanks.

UPDATE: turned it off and on again and everything’s working perfectly! Lesson learnt 🤞🏻

r/techsupport on Reddit: MSI Motherboard Bios update with MSI Live Update not working.
May 14, 2016 -

I have MSI Z97 MPOWER MAX AC mobo and can't any more update my bios. I downloaded MSI Live Update 6 and tried to update the bios in window mode.

  1. After bios download from MSI Live i got this: http://prnt.sc/b3wq5h. After starting bios update in window mode this comes up: http://prnt.sc/b3wqm5. Its stucking at: bios is updating and no DOS is coming up to prepare the update and restart the computer. I waited 20mins...

  2. If i choose DOS mode its asking for a USB Stick. I plugged a 2GB stick and MSI Live format my disk and copy the required bios files for me on the stick. Then i go to Bios and press M-FLASH and says that not media found. I looked the USB stick properties and its fat32 2GB and nothing should be wrong. Am i doing something wrong?

MSI Motherboard BIOS UPDATES through MSI LIVE UPDATE SAFE???? - PCPartPicker
I just used live bios update in Windows and it went well. I have a Krait z97 I got in sept 15. FYI I did tear down build from sept and do bios while I was just starting new build. The bios update took kept crashing perhaps due to virus or corruption issue in build. But in its defense it did not nerf bios ever just closed. But after wiping hd and installing Windows 7 64 bit and really not much else the program worked perfectly. I used Msi website to get last live update version and bios was first item.

r/MSI_Gaming on Reddit: BIOS white screen after updating BIOS to the latest, and missing MSI logo when booting
August 30, 2025 -

Please help me. I have MSI H610M-E DDR4 motherboard, the BIOS turned into white screen after i update the BIOS to the latest version. Weirdly enough i technically can control the BIOS but i scared to mess some setting with mouse. And another problem is MSI logo not showing when booting

My goal is just rollback the BIOS to 7D48vI9 2024-08-22 which my latest working BIOS, and the current one is 7D48vID 2025-08-29 which is newest BIOS version available for my motherboard.

I just wish i could instantly go to M-Flash without opening BIOS

Not quite ... the latest BIOS for that board is 7D48vAM ... https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-H610M-E-DDR4/support The 7D48vID is the latest BIOS for the DDR5 version of that board ... https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-H610M-E/support Looks like M-Flash let your cross flash the board with the wrong BIOS and your options are extremely limited ... M-FLASH IS NOT AN OPTION (FOR OBVIOS REASONS)! BIOS FLASHBACK DOES NOT EXIST ON YOUR BOARD! THE EFI SHELL IS NOT A OPTION BECAUSE YOU CAN'T DISABLE SECURE BOOT! The only safe way to restore this board proper with the 7D48vAM BIOS is to either ... Take it to a local shop to have the 7D48vAM BIOS programmed with a CH341A ... 2) Attempt to flash the board from within Windows using AFUWINx64 and the 7D48vAM BIOS! Honestly, Option 2 is your best bet because if it doesn't work or if it bricks your board, you're stuck with option 1 anyway. Or replacing the board entirely. Register for these forums and explain your situation to Svet ... https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/forum-uefi-shell-flash-tool-v1-73-for-msi-boards-%E2%9C%94.343010/ He might have be able to whip up a blind flash method using a version of the Intel BIOS Flasher that is digitally signed for Secure Boot, but it will require removing the Windows drive so that a GPT partitioned USB stick boots automatically after the board POSTs ... His own UEFI Shell Flash Tool will not help you because Secure Boot has to be disabled - the AMI flashing utilities for DOS and EFI aren't signed for Secure Boot, hence the reason why I uploaded the Windows version and linked it for you. You are UP shit creek and I typically don't recommend flashing from within Windows, but you're fucked 7 ways from Sunday with it being the only option outside of using a CH341A. Svet may know of some specific command line arguments to use with AFUWIN to force a flash with the 7D48vAM BIOS ... UPDATE: You might be in luck! Copy and paste the E7D48IMS.AM0 file in the same folder you extracted AFUWINx64. Then open a Command Prompt with Admin and navigate to that folder. Copy and paste the following command, hit Enter, and cross your fingers ... AFUWINx64.exe E7D48IMS.AM0 /GAN The /GAN command line switch tells AFUWIN to reprogram the entire BIOS chip without verifying the ROM ID, which is dangerous but necessary in this case since you've got a crossflashed board now and restoring it proper with the correct BIOS requires disabling any kind of checks ...

r/buildapc on Reddit: Warning to those using MSI motherboards: DO NOT use MSI Live Update to flash your BIOS.
November 26, 2013 -

I should've Google'd this prior to assuming it'd be fine.

I built my new Z87-G45-based gaming PC a few months ago, and everything has been great. It worked very well, and was very fast. The Fractal R4 case made it all look awesome as well (thanks, r/buildapc.)

With that said, MSI Live Update was installed when I installed the various motherboard drivers. It seemed to work well and helped keep my various drivers up to date.

Today I noticed there was an update to MSI Live Update (forgot the version, it may have been available for a while.) I installed the updated, and the software mentioned that all sorts of stuff had available updates.

I installed them as it recommended, and all of the sudden everything went black. A reboot didn't fix it. Clearing the CMOS didn't fix it.

So -- for those of you who are have this tool -- DO NOT USE IT TO UPDATE YOUR BIOS!

Google reveals that this has happened to numerous people.

Just thought I'd share.

Ian

Edit -

I should add that this applies to any motherboard manufacturer as well. You should never flash your BIOS in Windows.

Edit #2 -

u/noneabove1182 reports that MSI Live Update messed other stuff up as well.

u/JVista reports similar problems.

r/buildapc on Reddit: MSI BIOS update stuck at 100%?
January 24, 2021 -

So I built my PC a year or two ago, it has an MSI B360 Gaming Plus motherboard. Recently i started having issues where my pc wouldn’t restart or shut down all the way, I had to manually power it off every time, it would randomly stop detecting my headphones and my external wifi adapter would randomly stop working. Anyway I realized I should update my BIOS as I haven’t updated it since I built my PC. I downloaded the latest drivers straight from the MSI website, put them on a FAT32 formatted drive and did the whole M-Flash process. Everything went fine until the update should have been finished, it’s currently sitting at 100% but nothing is happening, no more prompts, mouse and keyboard are still locked and it’s just sitting at 100% doing nothing. I had to forcefully turn off my pc with the power button before I did this update so I’m wondering if the update is finished but can’t restart because of whatever issue was happening before, I’m worried about forcefully restarting it and bricking my motherboard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your USB stick must be 32GB or less, partitioned as MBR and formatted to FAT32 such as the 32GB SanDisk Cruzer Glide ...

red ligh on the mainboard can stay on, is not an indication the flashing hasn't succeeded. There's usually a different ligh maybe on the back on the board I don't remember. You can't just do "everything" you find on the internet. You need to follow the official instructions. If anything ask a model like chatgpt from what I have seen it provides correct instructions. Your stick has to be fat32 formatted. I am not sure if bios has to be the only file, but I wouldn't risk it. So, check if the file system is fat32, and if the drive is empty (not sure if this is a requirement) then copy the ROM to the drive and it has to be in its root (so not in a folder). AFAIK the file must be named MSI.ROM if you want to use the flash bios button (simply rename it. The actual BIOS, not the archive you have downloaded). You also can't insert the stick in any USB port, it has to be the one designated for that. Usually it's marked with "flash bios" or in some other way. Otherwise, you power off the system, insert the stick, and now you press the button and hold it for a few seconds (Maybe 3 sec). Now a led should start blinking. I don't remember any more but I think on my two boards where I have done it, it is a white led. When flashing starts, your board will probably turn on. It's ok if fans start spinning and even if red and/or yellow light on the board turn on. Even if your CPU's MCU was damaged or marginal the flashing should/probably will work. I was having issues with my previous 7900x CPU, and it was probably related to its MCU either being marginal from the start, or damaged by a voltage spike caused by early version of MSI bios (This wasn't specific to MSI boards, as a matter of fact their boards were rarely mentioned back then IIRC, it was more an issue with early AM5 boards of all manufactureres but a certain firm was suspected to be the main culprit, what was maybe related to its popularity or smth). I have RMAd the CPU and AMD didn't cause any issues. What is your reason for flashing new version of BIOS? Hopefully you're not doing it because you're bored or because you feel you should simply update every time a new version is released (don't do that) Edit: Forgot to add, don't interrupt the process at any cost! It can take a while. IIRC 5 minutes maybe even longer is normal flashing time. When the led stops flashing, it has finished and now you can turn off the system (simply flip the PSU switch to off then wait a bit and press the power button a couple of times just in case, and now turn it back on) Edit 2: Another thing I forgot to mention, you need to be more specific when asking for technical support. Your OP is missing crucial info like what have you done exactly, and is the red light indeed flashing or is it on all the time. Is this the led that's on the mainboard close to the CPU, or this is the small light that starts flashing after you have pressed the "flash bios button". Anyhow, it's quite possible you have done something wrong. Check the requirements and the flashing procedure I have described above. Edit 3: you do not "install" bios because you have built a PC. BIOS/UEFI is already pre-installed. You flash a new version only if there's a concrete reason to do that (Known bugs/issues that are relevant for your use case, so are affecting you directly. Every version has some bugs and you should not flash new version every time it appears unless it solves a particular issue that is affecting you)

Question - Computer is stuck on the BIOS screen after a BIOS update ? | Tom's Hardware Forum
March 28, 2026 - Before you did the BIOS updates did you update the Intel Management Engine? My MSI boards have given a reason before they kick into the BIOS. Does your display not initialize fast enough to show anything before the initial BIOS page shows up? If you reset the BIOS from the BIOS page (usually has some optimized defaults verbiage) then save and exit what exactly happens after it reboots?
