Did you build or buy your computer? If built you have to fill it in with info from off the box the motherboard it came in. If you bought it someone just didn't fill that in.

You will have difficulty finding ANY motherboard that has the serial entered into any OEM information tables. It will be on a sticker on the motherboard itself.

So here's my situation. I want to register my laptop on the MSI website because I need to get it fixed up. I need the serial number. I don't have the box, and the barcode sticker on the back is completely rubbed out. I can't read it. Period. I tried going into the command promt and typing in a command to get the serial number that way but it gave me the wrong one, the website would not accept that one. Is there any other way I can get my computers serial number?

Op have you checked BIOS? A quick search indicates it might be in there. That said, it's probably the same string as reported by the "wmic bios get serialnumber" command, but it can't hurt to doublecheck. edit: If you bought it retail, you could try calling the shop. They might still have a copy of the invoice. Kind of a long shot assuming your rubbed-out sticker indicates a lot of time has passed since the purchase date.
