Hey guys,
I know there's a bunch already but I'm shopping around for very precise USB C hubs.
I'd be looking for:
-
Minimum 2 USB A ports, preference for 10gbps (or 3.2) over 5gbps
-
HDMI stable 4k 60hz, would prefer HDMI 2.1 for Dynamic HDR support but optional
-
Ethernet 1gig
-
PD 100W
-
Extra USB C (Nice to have)
-
Mandatory Cable attachment and portable
PD 100W, the USB A port criteria and portability seems to cause me a lot of problems as I don't trust rando Chinese brands on Amazon as I'm not willing to risk frying a 4500$ machine by trying to save 20$.
Budget: Up to 200$
All I want is quality and reliability. It needs to be portable as I travel a bunch and can't drag my Caldigit TS4 everywhere.
I guess some bonus points if it matches my Macbook's aesthetics but let's face it that's pretty secondary.
The only thing I found that remotely gets close is the Anker USB C 655 Hub. If I can't find anything else, I'll settle for this. I'm usually a fan of Anker but I personally find the aesthetic abhorrent and the connector very impractical as it blocks other ports.
I really REALLY like the Satechi Usb C Multiport Adapter but 60W is a tad low IMO and I'd really like to be able to carry around only this hub and not another power adapter.
P.S. I know I'm asking a lot; I apologize. I hope this topic can help other people in seeking very high-quality docks. I know this is not for the "average consumer" though as I get the criteria is kind of high.
Update so far:
UGREEN USB C Hub 7 in 1 with 4K 60Hz seems solid and I usually like UGreen but trying to find something with USB A ports 10gbps.
Side-note, that's some fairly aggressive and impressive pricing in this market. Kudos to UGreen.
Edit 1: Also found Plugable 11-in1 USB-C Hub 100W. A tad big for portability though, Anker still "winning".
Edit 2: I think I found my first contestant to Anker. EzQuest's offers are attractive mostly their USB-C 10-in-1 Gen 2 hub. I really appreciate the transparency of the technical aspects too. But I've legitimately never heard of the brand before, which is suspicious given the professionalism I'm seeing on their page. They look slightly like Targus rebrands.
