I paid 2,000.00$ back in 2000 for my craftsman briggs and stratton rider from Sears. Had to replace the solenoid a few times and the head gasket once. If it is garage kept and maintained, it should be trouble-free for at least ten to fifteen years. More on reddit.com

Anyone have experience with their current line up? Specifically the MT100, which seems to be the very last traditional manual transmission lawn tractor available. Unfortunately limited to purchasing from a big box store but will only be used on a mostly flat half acre property. I checked out JD, Husqvarna, Cub and Troy bilt today, all had identical (poor) build quality and had what appeared to be non serviceable hydro set ups. The only "okay" quality mower I saw was a Toro Timecutter but it had a small output Briggs just like the Murray and I would honestly like to avoid zero turns for ease of use. I'm cool doing frequent maintenance I just want to know it's feasible to keep the machine running for more than a few years, particularly the transmission.

Mike, · I'll just go purely off my circuitry knowledge here, sorry I cant seem to find too much pertinent information in research because we are lacking model numbers. · 1st off, you found the safety switch under the seat right? · Safety switches for riding lawn mowers are typically nothing more than on/off plunger switches. When no one is on the seat the plunger is up and the switch is open/off. When someone is on the seat, the plunger will be pushed in and will cause the switch to become closed/on...completing the circuit. So all you have to do is connect the two wires that are plugged into the switch and you should by pass it. · NOTE: The above explanation assumes a "fail-open" switch and that you need a closed circuit to run the engine. · POST NOTE: Definitely don't recommend bypassing the switch. Safety equipment is there for a reason. Odds are you could rig up a $2 radio shack switch if you're concerned about money :)

October 13, 2011 - Welll Not that I beleive you, I do have a true story about Murray. Some ten years ago I bought a Murray box store mower. 14.5hp, 42" deck, Shift on the fly job. Still cuttin grass today ($700). Neighbor bought about the same time a JD (not sure of model) but it was 18hp with 48" deck and Hydro ($4800).
