Types of Musical Notes - A Beginner's Guide | Creators in Music™
March 25, 2024 - We can use mnemonics to help remember the order of the notes, like so: ... And for the spaces, the word F A C E. The swirl on this clef points to F below middle C. This clef is used for the left hand on the piano or lower-pitched instruments like the cello. ... While the position on the staff tells us the pitch of musical notes, their shape will tell us their ‘value’, or how long the note is.

software/app that translates sheet music into names of notes?
It's better to learn how to read sheet music- it is much faster than reading letters when you become more proficient at it. Try to decipher it and then commit it to memory, without writing it down. Playing a passage you have memorized while reading the sheet music will reinforce the learning and make you remember the notes better. I can understand why you'd like to write the names above the notes, I did many years ago and was told never to do that by my piano teacher. More on reddit.com

Japanese names for music notes?
The conductor uses German names (ドイツ音名 or ドイツ読み), which seems to be common for wind instruments in Japan: 「B、C、D、Es、F、G、A、B」(べー・ツェー・デー・エス・エフ・ゲー・アー・べー)と読みます。 Note that "B" in German is "B flat" in English, so the above notes are: B flat、C、D、E flat、F、G、A、B flat More on reddit.com

r/musictheory on Reddit: Names of note values (British vs. American)
January 3, 2022 -

I've done most of my schooling in an American school, until one and a half (school) years ago, I got moved to a British school.

In my previous school (American), we always called note values these names;
- Whole note (4 beats)
- Half note (2 beats)
- Quarter note (1 beat)
- Eighth note (1/2 beats)
- Sixteenth note (1/4 beats)
- Thirty-second note (1/8 beats)

However in my current school (British), they're calling the notes these names;
- Semibreve (4 beats)
- Minim (2 beats)
- Crotchet (1 beat)
- Quaver (1/2 beats)
- Semiquaver (1/4 beats)
- Demisemiquaver (1/8 beats)

In my opinion, the American names make much more sense, following a system of numbers, even though their names don't coordinate with their values. However, I could be a bit biased since I'm more accustomed to the American names. Plus, when you get to really short note values with the British names, the names get pretty ridiculous. What the hell is a demisemihemidemisemiquaver?

So which do you prefer? Any reason why?
