Best Podcast Equipment: Beginner & Pro Budget Recs for 2025
March 18, 2025 - I don’t have a particularly discerning ear and recordings are fine to use, but I think I must be using the ring settings. I followed their instructions for recording a meeting (high mic gain, AGC on, low cut on and so on) but perhaps that is the wrong approach? ... Hi Colin, thanks for getting in touch. And great name by the way 😉 · The Roland is a great little recorder, recommended by quite a few top podcasters...

March 25, 2025 - Bernard points to “the Focusrite Scarlett series, which comes with its built-in mixer, and the Rode Procaster Pro” as popular options for podcasters wanting to record more than one voice. He also adds that mixing can be enhanced by digital audio workstation software “like Audacity, Logic Pro, or Adobe Audition, as well as cloud-based systems like SoundTrap.” ... But before you invest, Bernard urges you to consult someone with more experience to determine your needs. “I bought three pieces of equipment before finding what I needed,” he recalls. “I could have saved a lot of money by speaking to an expert first.

Podcast Equipment Guide: What I Recommend After 500 Episodes
This is the boom arm that Joe Rogan and other podcasters use for their videos. I love how it's low-profile, has built-in cable management, and easily swings out of the way when I'm done recording. The PSA-1 or Elgato Wave LP are more reasonably priced alternatives. The best compliment I can give an XLR cable is that I never notice it. I haven't had any issues with buzzes or any issues with it.

Hi, I am starting an informational podcast about anything, but I know almost nothing about editing and what a good software for that is. I am trying to keep it on the cheaper side right now so that I don’t loose interest, what would y’all recommend?

r/podcasting on Reddit: What equipment to do I need to start podcast?
August 16, 2023 -
So I totally understand how saturated the comedy podcast market is, but alas I would really love to start one.
I'm a single father, balling on a budget and I might even do a GoFundMe for it. But I understand I need 2 mics, some type of sound board, a laptop, ect. I would like a video camera eventually but am cool with just starting out with audio.
My question is, what is the cheapest possible setup for decent equipment with and without videocamera?
Thanks everyone!

Love that you are going for it, and honestly, you don’t need a huge budget to start. For the cheapest but decent setup, grab a usb mic like the samson q2u or audio-technica atr2100x, both sound great and don’t need extra gear. If you are doing in-person recordings, a simple two-mic audio interface like the focusrite scarlett 2i2 could help, but usb mics are the easiest way to start. For software, riverside.fm is perfect for recording and editing without needing a mixer or soundboard. it records locally (so no internet glitches) and makes remote interviews easy. If you wanna add video later, even a decent smartphone on a tripod works fine. Keep it simple, focus on good convos, and upgrade as you go!

June 8, 2022 - To be able to record high-quality audio, you’ll need a separate analog or USB microphone. Most beginner podcasters go for USB mics as it allows them to simply plug their microphone straight into their computer and start recording. But if you want more flexibility and have multiple people joining your show, you’ll need XLR microphones.

April 9, 2024 - By the way, if you’re doing an in-person podcast (where the guest/co-host is next to you) you’ll want something else like this digital audio recorder. I can’t vouch for that particular model but there are lots available. They usually have built in mics and the option to plug mics in (not necessarily USB ones - check compatibility with whatever mic you buy).
