I also like the selection mechanism where I can drag my finger and select huge amounts of pics - can be easy to do accidentally but easy to undo as well and helps for situations where Im trying to add large amounts of pics to other places! ... There’s a lot that I love about this standard Apple app and I use it more than any other photo app, but I’m starting to use it less and less due to lots of bugs and glitches with the last few updates from 2024.

Pretty solid app. Downloaded it because Apple iCloud got full and had less space plus I’m able to use this on any phone unlike Apple photo app I can download google photos on any device and have all my photos no matter if I break a phone or get a new one I’ll always have my pictures.

I shot at a concert and while editing, i noticed that these stripes were appearing on many of the photos with the harsh lighting.
They seem to be pretty regular, appearing horizontal on horizontal photos and vertical on photos taken vertically
I shot in 1/100 and 1/160 and it appeared on both settings
Also, is there any way to remove these in post?

It's banding from the flickering of the LED lights not syncing with your shutter. Despite what most will tell you, this can happen with or without mechanical shutter. You just have to tune your shutter speed to match the lights. And if your camera has an anti-flicker setting, turn that on.

I’m not gonna lie when I say I actually like the banding on this photo. Idk why, it’s usually a bad artefact but I feel like it fits so well in the atmosphere

So I recently upgraded from Android 8 (Huawei p20 lite) to android 14 (Motorola g84). On my old phone there was already a app to view the photos in that I've taken, but on my new phone all the photos show up on google photo. The new phone don't have its own app to view them in. I had to download google gallery (I don't like the google photo app + there is only so many pictures you can save there without having to pay, even though my phone has like 200 GB of internal storage). But why is it like this. I know I can find the photos under files, DCIM etc., but there isn't an app that's not google that you can easily view them in.

In terms of having to pay--that's only if you opt to turn on backups from your phone to your google photos cloud account and use your google drive storage (have to pay more for more google storage). Otherwise there is no limit to how you can use the google app on your phone and you don't have to pay to use the app on your phone. In google photos, to view photos that are on your internal storage sometimes you have to go to "library" on the bottom and then "photos on this device" where you can view by folder. Why does google do this? Because they decided to build a cloud service as google photos instead of an on-device gallery app. Other gallery apps should also show all of your photos; you may have to indicate in the app which folders you want it to include.

I've been slowly replacing google's built-in apps because I find them frustrating to use, and Google photos was one of the first to go for exactly this reason: I just want to see my photos, not back them up to the cloud or categorize them with AI or whatever else google photos wants me to do. :) I've been using Fossify gallery instead: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fossify.gallery
