r/resumes on Reddit: What to include in the “About me” section of apps dedicated to helping you find a job
September 8, 2024 -

Hi, I’m trying to create a miniature CV for apps that help you find a job. A majority of them are including an “About Me” section. I’m unsure on what to write, here’s what I’ve got currently.

“I’m a friendly, reliable, and ambitious, student with a strong drive to complete tasks to the best of my ability and learn new things.“

Please give me some advice or guidance on what I should add in addition to the current about me to increase my employability rates.

Keep in mind that I’m 18 and I’ve got no prior work experience.

r/AskWomenOver30 on Reddit: What's a good "about me" bio on dating app
May 10, 2020 -

Hello ladies, I'm a 35y male (single since 17), and just decided to try these dating apps, currently on bumble and finally considering maybe I would like a relationship. But I'm curious what kind of info peaked your interest enough to swipe right? And I'm talking beyond looks, because on a scale of 1-10, I'm a 9...just kidding flip the 9, maybe less.

I mean this politely but the idea of playing to the common denominator may be a window as to why you're single currently. What is repulsive to one person is attractive to another. What is compatible with one person is wildly incompatible with another. Describe yourself. We're adults. You should have some idea of what kind of person you are, what kind of person you're compatible with, and what you're looking for. If you're unable to describe yourself, well, that would be a compatibility red flag for me personally. I would immediate ignore any profile that wrote something like, "Ask me if you want to know more," or, "I never know what to write in these things." The only general advice I can give: Don't describe yourself with defining yourself with what you are not. What I mean by that is if you want an active partner write, "I'm very active and looking for someone with a similar lifestyle," not, "If you're overweight, swipe left." Even the active women will likely see that as a gross statement. "I'm looking for someone who is looking for a deep commitment," not, "My exes all cheated on me and I'm looking for a nice girl for once." The former denotes your intention while the latter denotes baggage. "At this point in my life I'm looking for someone to romance nonexclusively," not, "Don't get clingy." You get the idea. Edit: The other responder wrote that she wanted to hear about your passions and abilities - I would likely swipe left on that if that's all there was. I want to hear about your viewpoint, your background, and what you want. The images show me your interests. She's not wrong, just it's a good example as to why asking us how you should fill out your profile isn't that helpful. We are interested in different things. So describe yourself as you see fit to find someone that is compatible with you.

Don’t make it a novella, and be sure to use proper grammar and spelling. Highlight some of your interests/hobbies, and don’t just make a list of dealbreakers.

My job is seriously satisfying, and focusing on kid’s content gives me the chance to tap into my inner child on a daily basis. As an introvert, game nights and movie marathons are more my scene than completing a club crawl every weekend, but I enjoy the occasional night on the town and will sing along loudly to any and all Beyonce songs that make it into a DJ’s rotation... if in the right company. ;) Here's the thing. This is something that comes up a lot in people's profiles.
