Is purchasing Namecheap PrivateEmail required?
Most providers have dropped providing email on servers to prevent spam and the server IPs getting blacklisted So they instead sell or resell separate email services. If you want to save money, just do that directly and use a business email service. Common ones are Microsoft outlook/ 365 whatever, Google workspace, Proton Mail, Zoho and Fastmail. r/copywriting on Reddit: Professional email set up, via namecheap or host?
September 21, 2022 -

First off, I'm curious whether folks go to namecheap to buy a portfolio domain? Or do you go straight to squarespace (or your preferred host) to buy?

My main question though is about hosting a professional email address. Not sure the best way to set one up. Is that best done through your hosting site or through namecheap? I'd really like it to have those email funnel into a separate mailbox than my existing gmail.

I've been googling and trying to find answers for this, but every time I search it gives me tips on how to set up a google workspace/domain/email (no shocker, especially considering I used google to search).

Curious to hear what others have done for professional emails! TIA

First off, I'm curious whether folks go to namecheap to buy a portfolio domain? Or do you go straight to squarespace (or your preferred host) to buy? Good questions. I like to keep my domains and web hosting separate. I've read horror stories of web hosting companies holding your domain hostage, so I'm just cautious. Then I have a web hosting company account. I build websites with WordPress. Although that feels old-fashioned today. Similar to domains, I'm cautious of having my website built on a platform I don't control. If my website is built with WordPress, if I decide to switch web hosting companies, I can do that. A lot of web hosting companies have WordPress hosting and will offer to transfer your website to them for free. You just have to submit a support ticket requesting a "website migration." With platforms like SquareSpace, you're stuck with their platform. You can't easily move your website to another platform. My main question though is about hosting a professional email address. Not sure the best way to set one up. Is that best done through your hosting site or through namecheap? I do a combination of domain registrar and web hosting company. After reading other people's comments, maybe I should just have my web hosting with Namecheap too and make things easier for myself. Register a domain name through Namecheap or whoever you want. Point the domain registrar's name servers to your web hosting company's servers. The web hosting company usually has this info in their knowledgebase. If you can't find it, just submit a support ticket asking for their server addresses. Set up a G Suite account. Get the MX record information from Google: Google Workspace MX record values . Web hosting platforms come with other email software, but I prefer a custom Gmail address because I'm used to Gmail. Go into your web hosting account (likely through cPanel), SquareSpace, or whatever platform you're using. Change the MX records for your domain to point to Google's email servers. That's the key step for your custom email address to work. That process was confusing at first until I did it a few times. Domain registrar > web hosting company Google's email servers > add to web hosting company's MX records for your domain. If you have multiple websites on your web hosting account, make sure you change the MX records for the right domain. Like if you own Pish-Posh-Fish.com and Pish-Posh-Cats.com, make sure you change the MX records for Pish-Posh-Fish.com. Optional but recommended: add the copywriting Gmail account to your main personal Gmail account. So you can quickly switch between inboxes without having to login separately. Embarrassing story: I once applied for a job using my professional email address. Forgot to add my copywriting email address to my main personal email account. Too late, I checked my copywriting inbox and saw an email from the client trying to hire me. I replied asking if the opportunity was available. They laughed and said no. I totally blew it. Learn from my mistake. lol. I swear, setting up my first custom Gmail address was more complicated than building my first WordPress website. Ha ha. With WordPress, you log into your web hosting company, pick a script installer like Softaculous or Fantastico, select WordPress from a menu of software and go through the install process. After you finish building your WordPress website, you get your first comment, get excited at first then read the comment and realize it's spam. You're done. Hope this helps.

r/webdev on Reddit: Is purchasing Namecheap PrivateEmail required?
January 1, 2025 -

Hi guys

I have always been used to buying a domain, hosting package, and then creating my email accounts through cPanel directly. Now I see a lot of these hosting providers are pushing these "Professional Business Email" plans, like "Starter, Pro Ultimate, etc", which cost extra over the regular hosting package.

I'm having trouble finding the info, but are these now required add-ons to create an email for a domain through cPanel, or is that still possible without buying these extra add-on plans?

I haven't used Namecheap in a while. I'm just building a basic website with 1-3 emails.
