Thinking about moving my personal domains email from ...
July 20, 2024 - I've waited years for them to get jellyfish ready for prime-time. Just spent an hour on their support chat site and they still cannot forward all the blocked emails to a spam folder so I can verify its not blocking important emails, and they still don't seem to think that's an important thing.

r/copywriting on Reddit: Professional email set up, via namecheap or host?
September 21, 2022 -

First off, I'm curious whether folks go to namecheap to buy a portfolio domain? Or do you go straight to squarespace (or your preferred host) to buy?

My main question though is about hosting a professional email address. Not sure the best way to set one up. Is that best done through your hosting site or through namecheap? I'd really like it to have those email funnel into a separate mailbox than my existing gmail.

I've been googling and trying to find answers for this, but every time I search it gives me tips on how to set up a google workspace/domain/email (no shocker, especially considering I used google to search).

Curious to hear what others have done for professional emails! TIA

First off, I'm curious whether folks go to namecheap to buy a portfolio domain? Or do you go straight to squarespace (or your preferred host) to buy? Good questions. I like to keep my domains and web hosting separate. I've read horror stories of web hosting companies holding your domain hostage, so I'm just cautious. Then I have a web hosting company account. I build websites with WordPress. Although that feels old-fashioned today. Similar to domains, I'm cautious of having my website built on a platform I don't control. If my website is built with WordPress, if I decide to switch web hosting companies, I can do that. A lot of web hosting companies have WordPress hosting and will offer to transfer your website to them for free. You just have to submit a support ticket requesting a "website migration." With platforms like SquareSpace, you're stuck with their platform. You can't easily move your website to another platform. My main question though is about hosting a professional email address. Not sure the best way to set one up. Is that best done through your hosting site or through namecheap? I do a combination of domain registrar and web hosting company. After reading other people's comments, maybe I should just have my web hosting with Namecheap too and make things easier for myself. Register a domain name through Namecheap or whoever you want. Point the domain registrar's name servers to your web hosting company's servers. The web hosting company usually has this info in their knowledgebase. If you can't find it, just submit a support ticket asking for their server addresses. Set up a G Suite account. Get the MX record information from Google: Google Workspace MX record values . Web hosting platforms come with other email software, but I prefer a custom Gmail address because I'm used to Gmail. Go into your web hosting account (likely through cPanel), SquareSpace, or whatever platform you're using. Change the MX records for your domain to point to Google's email servers. That's the key step for your custom email address to work. That process was confusing at first until I did it a few times. Domain registrar > web hosting company Google's email servers > add to web hosting company's MX records for your domain. If you have multiple websites on your web hosting account, make sure you change the MX records for the right domain. Like if you own Pish-Posh-Fish.com and Pish-Posh-Cats.com, make sure you change the MX records for Pish-Posh-Fish.com. Optional but recommended: add the copywriting Gmail account to your main personal Gmail account. So you can quickly switch between inboxes without having to login separately. Embarrassing story: I once applied for a job using my professional email address. Forgot to add my copywriting email address to my main personal email account. Too late, I checked my copywriting inbox and saw an email from the client trying to hire me. I replied asking if the opportunity was available. They laughed and said no. I totally blew it. Learn from my mistake. lol. I swear, setting up my first custom Gmail address was more complicated than building my first WordPress website. Ha ha. With WordPress, you log into your web hosting company, pick a script installer like Softaculous or Fantastico, select WordPress from a menu of software and go through the install process. After you finish building your WordPress website, you get your first comment, get excited at first then read the comment and realize it's spam. You're done. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

I would like to buy a domain name. It is cheaper on Namecheap, but I´ve heard mixed reviews about the company. Should I rather go with Cloudflare even though it is more expensive? The domain name is the same.

I am buying it for an NGO, so price is an important consideration...

Thank you.

February 26, 2020 -

I'm in the process of setting up a business, got a domain on namecheap, and went and got myself an @domain email via Office 365 (I really need Office for my business, can't be done in Gsuite).

After that, I discovered that namecheap offer email hosting and it would save around 80 bucks per year. Not huge money, but I am thinking to switch since I am still in a free trial.

Anyone used namecheap email and would give me any advice or thoughts about how well it works? I just need a solid email hosting for business, don't need advanced collaboration features or what have you.

Thanks for any help!

January 1, 2025 -

Hi guys

I have always been used to buying a domain, hosting package, and then creating my email accounts through cPanel directly. Now I see a lot of these hosting providers are pushing these "Professional Business Email" plans, like "Starter, Pro Ultimate, etc", which cost extra over the regular hosting package.

I'm having trouble finding the info, but are these now required add-ons to create an email for a domain through cPanel, or is that still possible without buying these extra add-on plans?

I haven't used Namecheap in a while. I'm just building a basic website with 1-3 emails.

Hi all, I am not the most savvy with these things... I have a Namecheap domain and set up Gmail for email. I can send emails but not receive them.

I believe there are some configurations within Namecheap that I might need to adjust? Or is this a Gmail problem?

Can anyone direct me to help trouble shoot or any screenshots I can share that can solve the problem?

Many thanks in advance!

r/homelab on Reddit: FYI Namecheap is selling your e-mail or is compromised.
February 19, 2023 -

I migrated all my domains last month to namecheap.

I use unique e-mail aliases for all services to know if they sell my e-mail or get compromised so I can easily swap them out If I get a ton of spam.

I did not register to any newsletter with the given e-mail and also privacy protection is on for each domain so it is not leaked via whois information, I double checked that.

Starting today I already got 3 spam e-mails.

I also checked the mail source, the e-mails where directly send from a hijacked aws ses account. They are not coming from the privacy service.

Very unhappy with that outcome given that I paid more then 200$ for renewals, whish it had gotten another registrar which respects my privacy.

r/webdev on Reddit: Namecheap's e-mail solution is terrbible
January 16, 2019 -

I have been using Namecheap's e-mail hosting for about 3 months. Since I exclusively use them for all my domains, I figured I'd use their e-mail for my business, as I've always been satisfied in the past. It's pretty affordable, one mailbox runs about $10/year, so it seemed like a great deal.

Complaint 1: Their web-based e-mail client is shit. It's based on Open-Xchange and feels stuck in the early 2000s. They do not offer a mobile app for iPhone, despite advertising "Mobile Support". This really just means IMAP support for a mail client. I have used Zoho before and their app is very nice, this is what I was picturing. I don't like using my phone's built in Mail app, as the refresh rate is too slow.

Complaint 2: Their e-mail servers very frequently get flagged for spam. I checked http://emailadmin.registeredsite.com/BlockDetails.php and found that the block had started a few weeks before I purchased my account, so I e-mailed Namecheap for help resolving the issue. My first e-mail to them was on December 10th on December 21st. It took nearly two weeks to resolve the issue, severely impacting my business. It was, however, fixed, and my e-mailing continued. Then, my e-mails started bouncing back again today with 553s. I checked the IP Address Block Lookup Tool again, to see the IP address has been blocked since Jan 11th. For a business like mine that relies heavily on sending e-mails (legit, non-spam e-mails) this is a serious issue.

Rant aside, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with decent e-mail providers I can transfer to. I really like Zoho, but I'm open to other suggestions.

r/webdev on Reddit: Moving away from Namecheap's Private Email subscription alternatives
April 25, 2023 -

Hi everyone, I hope this is not too off-topic for this subreddit -- (I've seen similar threads come up in the search results of this subreddit)

I hate myself for having created accounts everywhere with two different custom domain email addresses and now I'm locked in to spending money on renewing both of them forever.
This means that I'm currently paying for two separate domains and two Private Mail subscriptions at Namecheap.
The domain renewals keep getting more expensive and the private mail subscriptions for both domains have also increased in price already, so I'm thinking: Is there a way to get rid of one of the private email subscriptions and let it handle the email for both of my domains or can they only be linked in a 1:1 fashion with domains?
Also, can I move to some other email provider, keep my domains at Namecheap and let that other service handle my email traffic from and to there two domains?
I know about Gsuite but I'm not sure if I can use one single Gsuite subscription for multiple domains. Are there any other email providers that can do what I'm imaging here?

r/NameCheap on Reddit: Emails not delivering. Any advice?
March 31, 2025 -

Hi.

TLDR: My emails from Namecheap-hosted account don't get through to some recipients, not even to spam. Apparently relates to the rate limit on recipient side and fact I'm sending from a shared server so effectively tarnished by other Namecheap-hosted email. Told by Namecheap I should get dedicated IP. Is this necessary and would I need to do the same if I was using another web-host?

Disclosure upfront that I am not particularly tech-savvy and this is my first experience buying domains / building a website, so I'm feeling my way. I have a couple of domains from Namecheap, one hosted on the Stellar package.

I'm finding that numerous emails I send don't reach the recipient. I can successfully send to Gmail (and Yahoo, when Namecheap checked out the issue) and the odd other org, but others (notably academic institutions) don't even get to the recipient spam let alone get through to their inbox.

Namecheap have said this is caused by "the rate limit on the recipient's side" and that there is no solution they can implement since they don't manage the rate limit and it's applied to all customers on a shared server. They recommend purchasing (from them) a dedicated IP address, which would be used solely by me so "its reputation will not depend on the activity of other users hosted on the same server". I understand this to mean that some organisations block emails from Namecheap-hosted email accounts because they detect the shared server sends a ton of traffic and therefore is judged as dodgy.

Does anyone have any similar experience or advice? Would I get the same if I switched away from Namecheap? (and how easy is that? I'm biased to stick at least for a while given sunk cost as I've already had to troubleshoot a few teething issues with Namecheap and not sure if I'd get better/more straightforward service elsewhere or have to deal with similar setup issues with switching).

Thanks for any advice!
