The new guy isn't bad (Billy something...Eichner? Too lazy to look it up) but to me Nathan Lane as Timon is just so irreplaceable. Seth Rogen is good enough as Pumbaa that I can see him as the "real deal", but something about Nathan Lane's voice to me just can't be topped or even competed with. Does anyone agree? It might just be my bias, as Timon is my favorite character.

I do think Nathan Lane has an extremely unique voice that makes up the character of Timon, you can always tell when it's an impressionist in his place, but every single character in the remake doesn't feel "right" to me. They never will, because they're just not the original characters. This is why it's frustrating to see people refer to the new film as a prequel to the original. It's just not. It's a prequel to the 2019 film. Completely different world and characters.

I'm the opposite. I think Seth Rogen's Pumbaa completely misses the charm of the original character, but I don't mind Billy Eichner's Timon so much (maybe because I was a massive fan of his before the casting decision was even announced!). I think Pumbaa is a really hard balance to walk, because that gravelly-ness and throatiness has to come across as totally sweet and innocent, and that's not especially Rogen's vibe for me For a different take, my personal dream Pumbaa fancasting has always been Tituss Burgess! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYpfRNPVcEU ! I think he could take the character in a new direction vocally while keeping that sweetness and softness
