native plants that can be planted in spring (michigan)
I would really suggest getting involved in your local native plant society or group. Most will have a Facebook group or a website. My group has a ton of excess seed and plants, so it would be easy to start giving extras away. A great way to start would be to try some container gardening this year while you site prep a small spot in the yard this season. https://homegrownnationalpark.org/keystone-container-gardening/ More on reddit.com
Native plant recommendations (Michigan)
Also in MI. The bees love my purple coneflowers, which are blooming now. Foxgloves and columbines bloom in late spring/early summer and are gorgeous. Pussytoes are just a whimsical, early bloomer too—I don’t remember seeing a lot of bugs on them though. I recently added some prairie smoke in between the pussytoes, just because they’re very cool, Dr. Seuss looking plants that happen to be native for us. I also have some New England asters, hairy beardtongue, prairie blazing star, nodding alliums, and a variety of wild grasses. Plus a couple of milkweeds for food measure—those very popular in late summer. Ohio spiderwort moved in and I let it stay but it sure likes to spread. More on reddit.com

My husband and I are planning to turn our yard into a full garden. My grandma had a full front and back yard garden, but now since she has dementia I can't ask her about native plants. I was wondering if anyone could help me with native plants I can research about! Thank you!

Sure! What's your yard situation in terms of existing plants, moisture, and sun exposure? Are there some kinds of plants that you've seen that you liked? What kinds of plants do you like in general? What do you want your garden to do?
