Credit Card pre approval
NFCU has an online tool to see if you are pre-qualified for a credit card. Here is the link: https://www.navyfederal.org/loans-cards/credit-cards/credit-card-basics/prequalification.html Keep in mind that a pre-qualification IS NOT a pre-approval. This tool does a very simple check on your NFCU relationship and your credit score (soft pull, no impact to your score) to see if you even have a chance of qualifying. However you can get a positive pre-qualify and still be denied, and vice versa, you can get a negative pre-qualify and still be approved if you applied. Unfortunately these pre-qualify tools from NFCU and other financial institutions are known you be somewhat unreliable. More on reddit.com

How to Get Approved for a Credit Card | Navy Federal Credit Union
Lenders typically set a minimum FICO credit score for approval, but that doesn’t guarantee a credit card application will be approved. Having excellent credit can lead to better credit card options, including premium rewards cards, lower APRs, reduced fees and higher approval odds.

September 15, 2024 - I did their pre approval and the only card I was pre approved for was their secured card. Which was shocking considering all the big banks pre approve me for basically all their cards. Are credit unions typically stricter than banks?

October 22, 2024 -

I've been with Navy Federal for about 3 months now. I transferred all my savings, ($20K) into CoDs. I have the nSecured Rewards card with them and I have four pledge loans with NFCU. One has been paid off. Just curious, I tried the pre-approval tool and now I qualify for all the cards. My internal score must have went up. Question, should I wait until my secured card graduates to the cash rewards card, or should I just say YOLO and apply. Pre-approval doesn't guarantee anything but it's nice to see options and doors open up to me. Let's say my secured does graduate to a cash rewards, which card should I apply for next to get the $25K line? Let me know. Thanks.
