I've called Cust. Service several times and get a different response each time. I'm going to buy a basic used Honda, Toyota or Mazda of a few years old. Still researching.
Somewhere I read that Navy Federal will pre-approve me (hard pull) for a car loan of whatever they determine I qualify for. Other reps there say I have to know the exact car I want so they can determine the exact rates for that car or if I even qualify.
I'd rather not try to qualify for a car, they do a hard pull, I get rejected, try again with a smaller car, get rejected, go through it all again and end up with 5 hard pulls and a moped.
I went through the navy federal pre approval section for a car loan. Which was disappointed because it didn't even get me my rate and gave me a inquiry without consent which I didn't want. Lost 35 points which is strange for just that inquiry.
Before I dispute. Can you use the same inquiry on a credit card.
I’m looking around for a new car and wanted to know if NFCU offers a tool like that to see if I’m pre-approved for a certain amount/interest rate. I know about the monthly payment tool but I’m more interested in the interest I have the chance of being approved for. I’m still new to navy federal so any info helps!:)
hey y'all im brand new to all this financing stuff so I wanted to ask this here before going through with anything. I'm looking into financing a cheap car with a credit history of about ~7 months. I wanted to know if I apply for an auto loan pre-approval with navy fed will they do a hard pull and impact my credit?
Last week I decided to pull the trigger and apply for a pre approved loan from NFCU. My credit being “low”, (730s is what I hear is low), I figured i’d have a chance at something decent. I was approved for a used 60 month car loan of $19,250 w/ $6000 as down payment (I put that in the application optionally) w/ APR at 6.29%.
With careful research and guided opinions, I bought a used 2022 Honda Civic Sport w/ 50,000 miles on it for $19,665. Absolutely clean carfax, 1 owner and 1 MINOR rear bumper dent/damage that the dealership fixed. It looks like there was never an accident.
I took it to a Honda mechanic the next day because upon entering the VIN of the vehicle, I received info about open recalls for certain models and figured if it’s free to fix and risks my safety then I have to. Now I did ask the dealership about that and they said there was no problem with the vehicle. But, I like to be sure about things so I took it anyway. The mechanic confirmed there were no defective parts and that my vehicle was not affected by the recall and is completely safe to operate. They also performed a courtesy multi-point inspection as well as a courtesy battery test. The inspection turned out great. All fluids were topped off and the vehicle was deemed in great condition structurally. The dealership sold me a vehicle in perfect condition at a great price in my opinion.
However, upon reviewing the itemized list on my vehicle buyer’s order, I saw a “zurich shield elite plus appearance protection” purchase for $1075 on top of the vehicle purchase price. I vividly remember the salesmen acknowledging the fact I did not want any type of warranty and the other bullshit they try to sell you. However, the dealers here were in no way pushy towards me nor did they seem rude or anything like that. In this case, it just had to have been my fault for not asking for said itemized list BEFORE signing anything.
So other than this, I feel like I made a good call on this one.
Lesson of this short little rant, always ask for an itemized list, absolutely DO NOT be afraid of saying “no” to salesmen, and if you’re thinking of applying for a pre approved auto loan, just send it.
When you go for a pre approval, and you haven’t found the exact car do you need to specify new/used and the desired term on the application or just a desired $ amount?
I’m leaning new car but if I can find a lease trade in for the right price I’d consider that route as well
I have an account about a year old with only $100 in savings. I don't use my account much. I did apply and get approved for an auto loan (hard pull) in the summer of 2024, but I decided not to use it. If I chose to apply for another loan or CC will it be a hard pull or soft? Can I freeze my 3 Credit Bureaus to play it safe? I'm trying to avoid another hard pull right now.
