r/MilitaryFinance on Reddit: What to know before applying for auto loan pre-approval via navy federal?
December 31, 2025 -

Shopping for a new vehicle, first time buying on my own.

as of right now pretty set on going the pre-approval route via navy federal.

All I really know is that pre-approval is generally a quick process, and whatever pre-approval you are granted is good for 90 days which should definitely fit my timeframe that I would expect to go ahead and actually purchase a new vehicle.

What else is there to know about this process? Any tips and tricks etc will be greatly appreciated

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: Received a Pre-approval offer in Mail
August 2, 2025 -

Received a letter in the mail that says that I’m pre-approved for cash rewards card or cash rewards plus card, in the letter it says I’m invited to apply with a code at the bottom….considering applying but don’t wanna take the hit to credit if I don’t get approved. Is this a guaranteed approval? Or just marketing? Credit score isn’t great due to some late payments and credit card debt from moving that I’m almost finished paying off. Been a member for almost a year now.

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: Will Navy Federal pre-approve me for a car loan amount without knowing the car I want to buy?

I've called Cust. Service several times and get a different response each time. I'm going to buy a basic used Honda, Toyota or Mazda of a few years old. Still researching.

Somewhere I read that Navy Federal will pre-approve me (hard pull) for a car loan of whatever they determine I qualify for. Other reps there say I have to know the exact car I want so they can determine the exact rates for that car or if I even qualify.

I'd rather not try to qualify for a car, they do a hard pull, I get rejected, try again with a smaller car, get rejected, go through it all again and end up with 5 hard pulls and a moped.

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: What is the best strategy to buying a new car with a pre-Approval from Navy Federal? I have no idea how to buy a car.
October 10, 2024 -

I am going to have to buy a new car soon. I already have pre approval from Navy Federal. I have read many dealers hate Navy Federal pre-approval, but I have heard no real actual strategy to buying a car knowing this.

I have no family to tell me how to buy a car. They don't help me and basically going to have to figure this out on my own.

Can someone please tell me a real working easy strategy to follow to get a good deal given I will be using Navy Federal to finance my purchase and already have pre-approval?

Ideally, this strategy would involve doing everything up front before I go into the dealer. So I don't have to sit in there for hours playing stupid games.

Can someone please teach me how to buy a car given I will be using Navy Federal for pre-approval? Again, I have zero experience with this and have no one in my family willing to help me figure this out. Thanks if anyone can assist.

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: Pre Approval Tool Reliabilty
October 28, 2025 -

So my question is this. I have been looking on the credit card preapproval tool and the only thing that is offering me is a secure card. How reliable is that?

I opened my account with them in July 2025, have direct deposits with them totaling over $13,000 a month with my employer. My credit score sits in the mid to high 600’s to low 700’s. There are no delinquencies. My credit score is primarily driven by seeking new credit and revolving credit balances which are under 30%.

Any thoughts if I would be approved for an unsecured card, and if so potential credit limit and which cards should I try to apply for. Which credit bureau(s) do they pull from? I am very careful now with inquiries, so I only want to apply for a card if I have a high chance of success.

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: You're Pre-qualified.
October 22, 2024 -

I've been with Navy Federal for about 3 months now. I transferred all my savings, ($20K) into CoDs. I have the nSecured Rewards card with them and I have four pledge loans with NFCU. One has been paid off. Just curious, I tried the pre-approval tool and now I qualify for all the cards. My internal score must have went up. Question, should I wait until my secured card graduates to the cash rewards card, or should I just say YOLO and apply. Pre-approval doesn't guarantee anything but it's nice to see options and doors open up to me. Let's say my secured does graduate to a cash rewards, which card should I apply for next to get the $25K line? Let me know. Thanks.

October 10, 2025 - I applied and got approved for $500 not too long ago also was think about the pledged loan did you do one? ... Here to confirm this. Was prequalified for all the nfcu cards, got denied automatically within less than an hour (this was at night so I know it was automated). Just happened. ... Aww man! When you receive your denial letter-fix what’s on it and try again. Navy is huge on relationships.

July 14, 2025 - One more thing, how long have you been with Navy Fed? It’s been only one month for me but I plan to get a loan with them in the next year. Congrats on your loan! ... Congratulations! ... I got approved a month ago up to 62k. Didn’t need that much but they offered me up to that. ... Congrats! I've used the pre-approval process several times.

I am curious to determine whether I can add a Navy Federal card to my account credit card. Preferably the platinum, which offers a low APR percentage, or the Navy Federal More card, which provides a substantial range of benefits. However, I do not wish to initiate a hard credit inquiry. Instead, I intend to establish a timeline for myself in the future, should I decide to add one of these cards, knowing that I have been approved. Any information would be appreciated guys!

Navy Federal Flagship pre-approved but worried about ...
Have been doing direct deposit ... the navy federal flagship card. But the rumor is that flagship card is eventually doing away with the amazon prime coverage. So it seems like that 49 dollar annual fee for the navy flagship card might not be worth it for me anymore. That leaves the NFCU 250 bonus card 2% card (if they approve you for the better version) no annual fee cash rewards card- which in the realm of personal credit cards cards is pretty ...

r/NavyFederal on Reddit: Car pre-approval potential issues
August 23, 2025 -

So I just got pre-approved for a car yesterday and I've been doing research i've seen some posters mentioned that many dealerships struggle with Navy Federal and say that the pre-approval check "is not a real check it's just a draft" and that Navy Federal is slow to release funds in some cases they won't let you drive the car until Navy Federal releases the funds which could be who knows how long.

I'm wondering if there's any way that I can go in the branch and trade the pre-approval draft check for some kind of certified check that will clear immediately once I have a car deal finalized? Is that a real thing or just stick with the pre-approval method?
