Federal prosecutors charge 26 men with alleged conspiracy to manipulate college basketball games - The Athletic
10 hours ago - Since the New York indictments, the NBA has implemented changes to its injury reporting rules, is further investigating the claims laid out by federal prosecutors, and is weighing tweaks to other rules to guard against future problems. The NCAA is also trying to deal with these new issues. At the NCAA convention this week in Maryland, during a presentation on legalized gambling’s impact on college sports, Mark Hicks, NCAA managing director of enforcement, described how players at smaller, mid-major programs with losing records were being targeted for game-fixing schemes.

1 week ago - From 1992 to 2020, the NAIA operated separate Division I and Division II men's and women's basketball championships; the distinction between the two divisions was that D-I schools awarded basketball scholarships while D-II schools chose not to. Basketball divisions were abolished after the 2019–20 season, and single men's and women's championships have been held since then. ... In past decades, the NBA held to tradition and drafted players who had graduated from college.

16 hours ago - Carlos Hart (now at Eastern Michigan), Oumar Koureissi (now at Texas Southern) and Camian Shell (previously North Carolina A&T, now Delaware State) are the three others named who are active college players. r/CollegeBasketball on Reddit: 17 college basketball players charged in point-shaving scheme: Indictment
1 day ago - An active NBA player blatantly promoting gambling is crazy ... It’s not like he is the first though. DraftKings is partnered with damn near every major sports league. Even partnered with ESPN. Every big podcast it’s draft kings or prize picks. More replies ... how many college athletes do you know that have a job besides their sport? I worked at small D1 school (big south conference) and my basketball players were so poor.

They are accused of recruiting players who would help ensure their team failed to cover the spread of the first half of a game or an entire game, the indictment said. The fixers would then place wagers on those games through sportsbooks, betting against the team whose player or players they had bribed to engage in this point-shaving scheme, the indictment said.

The bribe payments ranged from $10,000 to $30,000 per game, a sum prosecutors said exceeded most players' legitimate opportunity to make money by marketing their name, image and likeness. The fixers also allegedly targeted players on teams that were underdogs in games and sought to have them fail to cover the spreads in those games.

Indictment is here.

The indictment alleges that players from 17 different college teams fixed or tried to fix at least 29 division 1 games.
