r/CollegeBasketball on Reddit: What college basketball team had the most NBA talent on it?
May 9, 2025 -

Thought of because of that silly ad with the Nova Knicks and DiVencenzo that's going wild during the NBA playoffs, it's pretty wild how all 4 of them were on the same team at the same time (I think only Hart wasn't on the 17-18 title team?)

That's a lot of talent on a single team. What's the most loaded team ever?

College basketball - Wikipedia
1 week ago - Many teams have been highly successful, for instance, by emphasizing personality in their recruiting efforts, with the goal of creating a cohesive group that, while lacking stars, plays together for all four years and thus develops a higher level of sophistication than less stable teams could achieve. College basketball remains more popular than the NBA in some regions of the United States, such as in North Carolina and the Midwest (where traditionally strong programs at Louisville, Kansas, and Indiana are found).

r/nbadiscussion on Reddit: Do you think there ever was a point where a college team could beat an NBA team? If so, what is the last possible year?
January 1, 2023 -

I’m asking this question in the spirit of March Madness.

Obviously, this answer is an easy no today. However, back in the day, top players used to stay 3-4 years. There were definitely college players who were better than NBA players (there are still a few today but not as much and it’s usually only vs. against the young rookies like Brandon Miller vs. Caleb Houstan). Historically though, there were plenty of examples. For example, Tim Duncan was probably easily a top 25 player in the world by the time he was a senior at Wake Forest. Both MJ/Hakeem were probably top 20 players (maybe top 10) in the world by their last year in college.

However, do you think there was ever a team that could beat an NBA team, and when was the latest year you think this was possible?

I would imagine maybe the UCLA teams with Kareem and later Walton (alongside other great players like Marques Johnson), but do you think MJ’s 1984 team (which didn’t even win a national championship) could beat the 1983-84 Pacers? I’m just throwing out some examples, but obviously maybe you can find better examples. Or perhaps you think the answer has always been no.

To be clear, let’s say that “could” beat an NBA team = favorite in a 1 game playoff. Obviously, anything “could” happen, but to define it more clearly, let’s say they would be the favorite in a 1 game playoff.

I remember some people at the time saying the UNLV team from 1990 to 1991 would beat the worst nba team. That team's three best players were Larry Johnson (rookie of the year and 2 time future all start) Stacy Augmon (o.k. starter for a few years), and Greg Anthony (o.k. starter for a few years) and this would have been the pre rookie versions of them. No one else from the team ever made the nba.

It hasn't been possible for an extremely long time, to the point that it would've been in the infancy of the NBA. The most recent example of a phenomenal college roster and an atrocious NBA roster coexisting was probably 2011-12 with Kentucky and the Bobcats. That was the 7-59 Charlotte team, while Kentucky won the NCAA championship with a record of 38-2. They had 6 players enter the draft after that season with 4 being drafted in the first round, including the first two overall picks in Anthony Davis and MKG. But even then it's just not going to happen. 5 of them are out of the NBA now with only AD having a noteworthy caeeer. The Bobcats certainly had no stars at the time (Kemba was a rookie) but they at least had a rotation of competent NBA players that managed solid careers. The 2014-15 Kentucky team actually had 4 players go drafted in the lottery with all of them eventually having good enough NBA careers, especially two guys named Devin Booker and Karl Anthony-Towns. But again the worst team in the NBA that year by record was Minnesota, and I don't see any chance of that Kentucky team beating them at their age when Minnesota still had decent NBA players including a rookie Andrew Wiggins and old Kevin Garnett.
