Is scoring at an all time high? Why?
It’s funny because we’ve basically gone back to the 80s pace except we added the 3 ball. More talent in the league than ever 3 point attempts more than doubled compared to 20 years ago and guys are hitting them at a record rate. More shooting also leads to more spacing which leads to better offense in general. Rules are catered to the offensive players compared to before. Things like a shorter clock on offensive rebounds and transition take fouls all benefit the offense compared to a decade ago. More fouls are called in favor of the offensive player (while FTs shot are about the same compared to 2000s the number of 3s more than doubled meaning players today are getting the exact same number of calls despite shooting 20 more 3s per game) Less offense are ran through the post compared to before. Complete meaning that if you were guarding against, you would fear them from anywhere in the half court. Someone that's not just a one trick pony, or someone that doesn't have a weakness in any level of scoring. For instance, Steph obviously operates primarily from beyond the arc, but I would fear him getting to the basket, and from mid range as well, so even if you run him off the line, he just has such a great all round scoring game, KD wasn't getting to the rim as much post injury, LeBron isn't that great of a mid range scorer, we know MJ wasn't really a 3pt shooter, Kobe was more of a mid range assassin, and I think we could eliminate Magic, Wilt, Kareem, Duncan, and Shaq. So maybe Steph, Bird, TMAC, Jokic?
