Started master mode with my buds, and I’ve chosen the ranger class. I’ve heard the thrower class was ranked and scrapped, and now acts as ranger armor? Does anybody know which would be better for general play and for boss fighting?

I used fossil until crimson armor and then used crimson until necro

Fossils can now be gotten with any pickaxe, and Fossil Armor’s stats have been changed. Now it’s an early game ranged armor which is weaker than Necro
Anybody know any good mods that compliment Fossils and Archaeology? Mar 2, 2020

I’d say crimson armor. Crimson armor gives 16 Defense +6% damage and better life regeneration. Fossil armor gives 13 defense +5% range damage +8% range crit chance and a 20% chance not to consume ammo. Over all the extra defense and life regen is nice and still 6% extra damage makes crimson better choice for a general ranger build. If you are trying to go for pure damage then fossil armor. Once you get to the dungeon though necro armor is the better choice. More on reddit.com

As a returner who hasn't played since just before Archeology released - does this have no drawbacks at all to necro? Is this a viable thing for other combat styles? The title is somewhat self-explanatory. I'm planning on doing a ranger build, and I want to know If i should stay with fossil armor, or if I should switch to crimson armor instead. I haven't really been able to find a solid answer anywhere, and I'm having trouble deciding.

Fossil armor has a higher critical-hit chance and innate ammo conservation, but Crimson armor has higher defense, increased regeneration, and a damage bonus that applies to all weapons. Try them both out and see which one you prefer. If you do switch to Crimson armor, keep the Fossil armor around in case you want to duplicate sand or something.

In order to wear a tier of necromancy armor, you have to have crafted it first. It's worth your time going through and crafting each tier. You can save yourself a bit of time in the future when you get to the tier 70 power and tank tasks, though; since each of them require the regular t60 as a base to create them, you can just buy a second set of t60 gear to craft into the t70 path you didn't already make.

You can just use melee tank armor. You have 100% accuracy regardless and you need to get level 80 smithing for invention anyways.

Should add that this applies to the armor only, you should still be upgrading your weapons obviously until t90 where you'll be able to fight Rasial (hopefully using t80+ tank armor or even masterwork armor if you manage to find the time at the smithy) for best in slot equipment

Are your elemental resistances at 75%? How much life/es do you have? Are you using defensive flasks? Are you using bone armour? Do you have a cwdt or cwc setup? How much chaos resistance do you have?

Armour has diminishing returns and works better against smaller hits than larger ones or so I was told. What I did to become harder to kill is to get to around 6.5k~7k life, as close to 90% physical damage reduction as possible, cap resistances, chance to block attack damage at least 70%+ and to block spells like 40%+. To increase my armour/physical damage reduction/block I am using a Rumi's Concotion Granite Flask and skilled Mistress of Sacrifice combined with using the skill Bone Offering. I am also using a Jade Flask to grant me a around 43% chance to evade attacks and a basalt flask to give me an additional 15% physical damage reduction (makes it easier to reach the cap of 90%). In addition you can use jewels that give your minions the chance to taunt or link meat shield to a minion skill so attacks might go to them instead of you. Also do not forget that bosses can deal other types of damage too, not only physical. EDIT: A jewel with "Minions have X% to blind on hit" is also helpful.
