The Half of It (2020 Netflix Original)
Thought it was going another dumb teen netflix movie they seem obsessed with churning out. Pleased to see I was very wrong. I liked that they didn't go the usual cliches, especially the usual 'jock' characters like Paul. You could argue they used the 'nerdy asian' trope, but Ellie was definitely fleshed out enough to defy it. Really liked the ending, I also liked the ambiguity of it, I feel like that's more like real life. It also had a very nice call back. Additionally, one of favourite film tactics is defying what sort of love story your seeing. Much like About Time was ultimately about the love between the father and a son, this was about the love between friends. More on reddit.com

I'm late to the party but holy shit this was an awesome film. Reminded me of night crawler but even colder, the main characters story arc is very well written, pacing is perfect and the ending feels satisfying within the context of the story. Also my mind was blown at the last shot of the lead actors face, you can see his expression change incredibly subtly from a smile of mocking dominance to slowly mimic the mother's grief. Absolutely chilling and really good performance, I don't think I've ever been that impressed by an actor ever. More on reddit.com
