Kinda depends on your head shape, in addition to the size. For me, I wear 39thirty L/XL or 59fifty 7 3/4 very comfortably. However, 59fifty low pro is too shallow for me at 3/4 or 7/8. Answer from Htb323 on reddit.com

r/neweracaps on Reddit: Low Profile 59fifty?
November 15, 2024 -

I’m thinking about buying my first Low Profile 59fifty and I had a few questions. I mostly buy the 39thirty, but the hat I want isn’t available in that style and I’d hate to shell out $40-$50 for a hat and not like it.

  1. I measured my head and I’m right on the button for a size. Does this style of hat run true to size, or should I expect it to run a bit big or small and order up or down accordingly?

  2. The bill is curved, but not as much as the bill of a 39thirty. Is it possible to permanently curve it a bit more?

  3. A bit of internet/YouTube research told me that the Low Profile 59fifty and the 39thirty were similar when it comes to crown height and width of hat. Is this accurate?

Thanks in advance for the help.

EDIT: I live in the middle of nowhere. It would probably be cheaper to just reorder a hat if the first one doesn’t fit than to drive several hours to a store that sells New Era hats to try one on.

r/neweracaps on Reddit: Anyone notice a size difference between the Regular and Low Profile 59Fifty?
January 4, 2017 - I got a regular 59fifty in 7 1/4 which was VERY tight, when I found a LP 59fifty, of the same hat, I figured I'd go a size up since I had read LP's can run tight. It was a mistake, the 7 3/8 was way too big, bigger than other 7 3/8 hats that I had tried on in the store. Quality control on Chinese made hats doesn't seem too consistent. More replies ... As someone who wears 8, I can't trust anything besides a 5950 to fit correctly. I don't think I've ever seen a Low Profile in 8 1/8 or bigger, either.

r/neweracaps on Reddit: 59fifty low profile sizing questions
July 8, 2019 -

I have several 59fifty caps fitted size 7¼ and they fit fine. But I don't like how bulky they look when I wear them bill forward. So I ordered a low profile 59fifty online. I ordered the same size 7¼ because that seems like common sense. When I put it on my head it was really small. It felt smaller than a 7. I tried going to sports stores to see if there were some I could try on so I could order again online, but none of them had low profile 59fiftys. Does anyone know what size low profile 59fifty is equivalent to a regular 59fifty 7¼?

r/phillies on Reddit: Need a new hat: 59fifty, low profile or 39thirty?
September 20, 2022 -

I'm looking for a new hat. I've been wearing a 9twenty for 4 years now, and I'm trying to change it up.

I have a rather large and bulbous head. My concern is that a straight up 59fifty might be too boxy, making my already large head look even larger. My gf said the 39thirty looked good, but I wasn't digging the elastic band. Also, I'm probably subconciously wanting a genuine hat the guys wear on the field. (Sure, I'm a 30 year old man, but who cares that I want the hat my heroes wear? "I'm wearing the same hat the Phils players wear!" Idgaf if that makes me sound like a child, lol.)

So, is the low profile essentially the 39thirty minus the elastic band? And for style, do you think the low profile will look better on an egghead than the og 59fifty? I wish I could try on a bended and broken in 59fifty, but I don't know anyone who has one. The guy at lids did let me bend one, but it'll take some time to actually get the shape on it.

P.S. Go Phils.

Hey guys,

trying to build up my collection and hoping you can help with ideas.

I can only rock the low profile, just because with the normal new era fitted the crown/front is too tall, it just looks like it expands my forehead too much. I just found topperzstore.com and wanna get so many retros from them. Ive noticed that I actually have 2 older 59Fifties (one wool), both are not low profile, and they dont seem as pronounced as the ones these days. They are 2 sizes smaller than I wear, 7 /14 as apposed to 7 1/2, not sure if that has to do with it or different style back then but they fit fine.

Does anybody know of a way to make a normal NewEra fitted look more low-profile? At least take away some of the prominence of the tall front? I have a good steamer, works great shaping the bill. I know the new ones are polyester, which doesnt shrink well, just trying to think of something before I drop 150 on topperzstore. Maybe topperz uses older NewEra because they're retro? I'd be pretty happy if they looked like these two older 1/4, which I didnt do anything to, and if they use newer stock, hoping I can find a way to take away some of that brow.

Thanks a bunch!

Whats The Difference Between a 59FIFTY and a 59FIFTY Low Profile?
June 10, 2021 - New Era 59FIFTY & 59FIFTY Low Profile are both fitted hats with two slight differences. If you are unfamiliar with the baseball cap industry, we do want to point out that there are multiple words that pretty much means the same thing in this space. For example fitted hat, fitted cap means the same thing as well a brim and flat bill and an undervisor, underbill & underbrim.

r/neweracaps on Reddit: As I get older, I really appreciate the low profile more
May 3, 2024 - They’re basically a low profile 59fifty in many ways. Just recently I thought I’d try a few New Era caps and love the look of the 9forty but find it too aggressively shaped - I wear big frames. So I’ve this past week purchased some 9fifty and 59fifty caps.

December 17, 2010 -

Hey guys...found a site (www.minorleagues.com) that sells literally every low crown New Era hat, plus the regular style too.

Has anyone bought a low crown? Are they that much different than the regular 5950's? I have some regular ones and feel like they almost have that "Fred McGriff puffy hat from the Tom Emanski commercials" look to them.

Hi guys, I see most people here roll with 59fifties (fitted), I personally been a 9fifty guy since I was a kid. Is there a reason why many of yrl prefer 59fifties, I mean is there an added advantage that I don’t know of?

I’m eager to learn.

Both are good, but fitted hats are hard to collect. You may have to try 10 of the same size on before you get the correct one, because they’re hand stitched and they will all fit differently, even though they’re the supposed “same size”. The fitted hats do have a timeless look, but then again so do the snapbacks. They have a nostalgic appeal, and a lot of the rap and rock artists made them famous in the late 80s and early 90’s. They have more street flavor, and they’re much easier to collect. Fitted MLB hats are more popular in the US. Overseas, not as much. Both styles are good, and I have both, but I think I prefer 9Fifty because they’re a little cooler In hot weather. I can adjust with hair style changes and cuts if need be, and when I order online, I automatically know it will fit. It’s literally 90% the same hat as the 59Fifty, with only the back being the difference. Thickness, material, logo thread counts are all the same.

I like them both. My collection is small but growing (probably about 6 caps and a few other New Era hats, winter hats/bucket hat). Most of them are 59fifty and I will give those the edge because they fit well and are a classic cap IMO (plus a lot of the limited runs that I think are cool are not available in 9fifty). However, I have bought a couple of 9fiftys (only 2 now) and will continue to do so for some hats. If you're not looking at the back you won't even notice and it's an option to give to friends/family members to borrow if they go to Yankee games with me and don't have a Yankee hat of their own.
