April 22, 2021Upgrading to 24gb RAM in new 27in iMac
Mismatched RAM can have a few % points performance penalty associated with it (compared to all banks being identical.)
That said, you'll never notice unless all you ever do with the computer is run performance benchmarks on it.
If you need to bring the Mac in for repairs, remove the extra RAM first.
Everything will work fine, and 24GB > 8GB every time.

I haven’t owned one but repaired a couple and they are nice units! I was also impressed with the speakers. The cooling was over the top internally but that just helped the longevity. It’s a shame Apple didn’t keep it going really with a newer model More on reddit.com
