I am about 330 pages into "Never Flinch" and hope to wrap it up today or tomorrow. It seems that a large portion of the King fandom doesn't care for Holly Gibney, so I seem to be in the minority. For those who are reading/have read the book what are your thoughts overall (with no spoilers please)? And how would you rank this among the others in the series starting with "Mr. Mercedes"?

I absolutely love Holly and have really enjoyed every story featuring her. Except this one. By far the weakest. Too many storylines and too little character development. Unusual for King.

I finished last night and gave it a high rating. So far, I’ve enjoyed every story involving Holly Gibney, and I’ve given them all good ratings. I found it very similar to the previous Hodges/Gibney books.
I marked it down a bit for “realistic unfolding of events” because some elements of the plot were a little too convenient, making some things feel a bit too coincidental to be realistic. Some parts of it felt a bit too similar to previous books in the series and other SK books, making it feel slightly recycled. I also found that having two antagonists with similar origins required a bit of extra focus to keep them separate in my mind.
Overall, this was a very entertaining book to read. It kept me excited and curious. The ending wasn’t exactly what I expected, but it was still satisfying. I’d read it again. Hope you all enjoyed it too!

I gave it 2/5 on Goodreads, one of Stephen Kings worst, although I’ve read a lot of books worse than Never Flinch. The worst thing about it is that it just doesn’t feel or read like a Stephen King book. Even his lesser books like Cell, Sleeping Beauties and Tommyknockers all had that spark and atmosphere.

I love Stephen King. Inherited that passion for his writing from my mother and I enjoyed Holly in the Mr Mercedes series and The Outsider. However the book Holly gave me a bad taste. Maybe it's the sign of his age (See Terry Brooks) or he's just tired of writing but whatever the case it wasn't up to his usual quality. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the story. I'm talking about his writing ability/style. Something is off. I've the same issue with Never Flinch. Interesting read but not as well executed as King's past efforts. Still as others have said, I'll be here to the end as a Dear Constant Reader. We owe him that for the decades of amazing stories he's given us.
