r/MMORPG on Reddit: My experience so far with “New World: aeternum”.
November 9, 2024 -

Hey everyone. I had to share my thoughts with you, Gotta say I’m a casual player, only lvl 50, so I might miss more issues and the game might not be for everyone but It’s honestly been years since a game has hooked me like this. Life’s pretty packed these days – baby, work, college – so I wasn’t expecting to dive so deep into something like this. But man, New World has me totally hooked.

The world of Aeternum is unreal. It’s like this massive, living, breathing place that you actually want to get lost in. The environments are insane, from lush forests to spooky ruins, and it feels like there’s always something cool around the corner. I can’t help but think about my next session – which is saying a lot with everything else going on in my life! The crafting is amazing, fishing got me busy after a long day at work, which is something I never thought would be possible lol.

One thing I love is the combat. It’s not just button-mashing; there’s actual skill involved. You have to strategize, time your moves, and think through each encounter. Whether I’m fighting monsters or clashing with other players, it never gets old. And the community? So good. I’ve met some awesome people, and it adds this whole social aspect that makes it even more fun. You’re not just gaming – you’re part of this huge world where everyone’s on their own adventure. The fact that I can try out any weapon, max lvl it and see if I enjoy it, this is refreshing.

Now, I’ll be real – New World isn’t perfect. AGS still has some issues to work out. There are bugs, some balancing problems, and little glitches that need fixing. They’re working on it, but it’s one of those things where you’re hoping the developers stay on top of it. Even with all that, though, it’s worth playing.

If you’ve been curious about it or need something new to dive into, you have to try New World: Aeternum. You might just get as hooked as I am.

My experience so far with “New World: aeternum”.
New World is probably the best ‘I just got the game’ type games I have played. Destiny and division was right up there too. You definitely get your moneys worth at your first purchase. Whether or not you stick around is entirely on you because so far AGS haven’t seemed to care to much about getting players to stick around. More on reddit.com

PSA to anyone debating whether or not to purchase New World: Aeternum
I’m a big fan of MMOs and have been having a blast on T&L since release, and have also played WOW and OSRS for some time so New World really appealed to me. I hadn’t played prior to Aeternum release and I’d only heard/seen mixed reviews in the past. More on reddit.com

What's your first impression of New World Aeternum?
Going through my first real experience with the game now and I'm enjoying it a lot, but I'm a casual when it comes to MMOs. Most of the complaints about it I see are either from people who feel burned by AGS (what they promised vs what they delivered), or are real MMO no-lifers (no offense) who are unhappy that there aren't endless things to do in endgame. Fortunately I have no attachment to either of these two arguments so there's no baggage on my end. I'm buying the game for what it is & offers right now, and it's been a pretty good experience so far. My buds and I are leveling together, the crafting system is fun, I like the combat, and the sound design + atmosphere is nice. I don't expect or plan on staying hooked by this game for countless hours, so endgame complaints don't really matter to me. Just gonna enjoy it and move on to the next game. More on reddit.com

Reviews for New World Aeturnum on Xbox, PS5, and Steam
New World is awesome, all Amazon need to do now is deliver on a roadmap and content. I had 1.3k hours before Aeternum and loved it before but I’m so thrilled it’s had a last life line given to the game. More on reddit.com

New World
But good graphics can’t sustain ... and even New World’s gorgeous vistas get old after a while. It’s frustratingly inconvenient that fast travel is limited to a very select group of points on the map. Because you’re forced to spend a scarce resource when using it, you’ll often find yourself hoofing it from place to place. Sure, this makes Aeternum feel spacious, ... New World is a very pretty survival-MMORPG hybrid that saves its best moments for the endgame – but you have to be willing to grind like hell to get to them.

New World: Aeternum - New World Blues (Review)
October 23, 2024 - Despite the backing of one of the largest corporations in the world, New World: Aeternum is ultimately an “also ran” of a title that does far too little to stand out and pretty much relies on the Amazon brand for attention.

New World: Aeternum’s mix of swords, magic and gunpowder is blended with a colorful world and accessible but satisfying mechanics. With a good balance between solo, co-op PvE and PvP content, Aeternum has something to offer most players.

October 25, 2024 - Gameplay : Still crisp combat. Addition of Runes and new weapons is nice as it changes meta. Artifact items are a nice surprise addition and make hunting for loot that much better.

Is it worth getting into this game :: New World: Aeternum General Discussions
January 13, 2025 - The combat in New World is top tier. No MMO even comes close. Most of the bad reviews are from a couple years ago. Since then, they have added a lot of content. For a new player, there is hundreds of hours of content for you. And since they have fixed all the major issues, they will be adding a lot more content in the future.

October 21, 2024 - With my background in MMORPG games, I’ve come to expect certain rules. Generally speaking, you only use the armor and weapons for your class and build with those stats in mind. New World Aeternum definitely subverted that early enough that I didn’t even realize until I started messing with the auction house.

New World: Aeternum Review - Gamereactor
First things first, New World: Aeternum is still very much an MMORPG. It's now less overpoweringly an MMO and is more a game that leans into the RPG side of things, meaning you can experience the majority of this title alone and without the need to team up in guilds and such. If you like that social aspect, it's still very present, but if you would prefer to experience the incredibly long story and explore the massive open-world without needing to keep up with other players, you can do so without a hitch.
