I would say with anything refurbished at ANY VENDOR, "caveat emptor" or "buyer beware". I once purchased a refurbished Xbox from Gamestop, and got a 1TB instead of a 500GB and its still running 6 years later. In the same train, I purchased a refurbished laptop once and it junked out after 3 hours. My point being, its a gamble, and the price usually reflects that gamble. r/Newegg on Reddit: Is it safe to purchase a refurbished item?
April 8, 2023 -

Hi!

I've been wanting to purchase a budget laptop for awhile now since I'll be enrolling into a program that requires Windows rather than Mac.

I saw that Newegg offers a refurbished laptop for under $300, but I'm hesitant to buy it as I'm seeing a lot of bad reviews about their products especially with scams and third party sellers.

The item I want to buy says it is sold and shipped by Newegg and I saw a lot of comments in other threads saying it is safe as long as the item says that.

So I wanted to know if it is worth purchasing the item from Newegg considering that it is refurbished and sold/shipped from Newegg.

I appreciate any guidance!

Long story short I'm looking to upgrade via prebuilt I've found one I like for a good price but it's refurbished. It's sold and shipped by Newegg, I'm ready to pull the trigger just wanted to see if anyone has had any experiences (positive or negative) buying refurbished from Newegg. Thanks.

December 11, 2022 -

Had my 1080 finally die last month. Saw that Newegg was offering 3070s supposedly refurbished by Gigabyte for sale at a decent price, money has been tight and I need my computer for work and I need a decent video card for it.

First card showed up on the 8th, artifacts on boot. RMA, took 10+days round trip, and the new card is artifacting on boot and giving me error 43 in windows, on multiple machines. I'm sitting here and the only return I can do is for a replacement and it's obvious it's a bad batch of cards, since I've purchased it, a review has shown up on the site with similar issues.

Just be warned I guess waiting to hear back from support to see what can be done but apparently newegg is not great lately.

i'm looking to get a cheap optiplex but am not sure which 3rd party sellers are trustworthy. even ones with lots of reviews i'm pretty skeptical about because they all seem pretty generic.

I bought a computer very much like that one, several years ago, for about the same price, sold as "refurbished" by a 3rd party vendor. It was okay, but not great. The little wireless card was broken inside, and the screw to hold it down was missing, so I had to buy both to get it to have onboard wireless. But the card used on eBay for about $12.00 so it wasn't a huge deal, but ... I don't think I'd ever do that again unless it was an emergency, which it was at the time. I needed a super cheap computer to get online for various things like paying bills and surfing, etc... and so it did it's job cheap. Last time I fired it up, the onboard video was gone and so in order to make it work I'll have to buy some kind of super small video card for who-knows-how-much. Another time I bought a cheap laptop and it was immediate garbage, and I never used it. Too much hassle to send it back. So my two experiences with NewEgg 3rd party vendors selling cheap "refurbished" computers are 1) good enough, and 2) bad. First thing to know is that the word "refurbished" doesn't mean anything at all. It means USED and it also means "if it doesn't work, you have to send it back and hope you get your money back". They idea that a company is going to take used computer equipment and spend money on skilled labor on making sure it's 100% functional, and "fixing" whatever is broken is a nice fantasy before you've been burned, and laughable in retrospect, after you've been burned.

I am in the market for my first chromebook. Looking to stay in the 300-400 range. I am interested in the HP X2, HP x360, and the ASUS C434. I know the Asus is out of my price range with little to no discounts. Newegg currently has the refurbished x360 for $309.99. I see the X2 and x360 new for $399.99 every now and then. My question is: is buying refurbished from Newegg worth it to save the $90. Also, what has your experience been with refurbished from Newegg or other retailers?
