The last time we got a new James Bond actor announced was back in 2005 with Daniel Craig.
with the exception of the beloved David Niven, our unofficial spoof Bond who passed away in 1983, all previous Bond actors were still present to herald him in, commenting positively on his performance and take on the character.
But now, sadly, for the first time ever with a new Bond actor announcement, at least two of the new actor's predecessors will not be witness to it. with the sad passing of Sir Roger Moore in 2017 and Sir Sean Connery in 2020.
with the increasing length of modern movie production times, (the Craig films averaged a release once every 3 years as opposed to every other Bond averaging less than 2 years per release) by the time the Bond after that is announced, (perhaps in some 15 years time) Craig and his direct successor may be the only previous Bonds actors present with Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan in their 70s (still astonishing to me in Brosnan's case, the man doesn't age) and Lazenby in his 80s.
It's bittersweet in that in what will feel like a short time, all the 20th century Bonds will be gone, but also in that it's beautiful that we had all these wonderful actors still present to witness each other's tenures to completion (or nearly so for the Craig films)
bit of a sad thought to share, but I wanted to share it,
