How do people usually say "nice to meet you" in normal conversation? I was always taught enchante in Duolingo and my French exercise book but when I said it to a friend of my in laws she kind of laughed at me and gave m a weird look. My bf later did say enchante is a little too formal sometimes in normal conversation but I didn't know. Is enchante normally too formal for basic conversation? I don't know any other way to say it. Any tips??

What are some alternative ways to say "nice to meet you" other than enchanté ? And what context are they appropriate in?
I've heard all of these: Ravi(e) de te/vous rencontrer - pretty close to literally meaning "pleased to meet you" and functions as a good standalone replacement for enchanté. C'est un plaisir de te rencontrer - kind of long, but could work as part of a longer sentence like "it's a pleasure to meet you, I've heard so much about you, etc" C'est un plaisir de faire votre connaissance - same as above but more formal Also, if you want to say "pleased to meet you" at the end of a conversation, in the sense of "it has been a pleasure to meet you": ça a été un plaisir/je suis ravi(e) de t'avoir rencontré / d'avoir fait votre connaissance I'm not a native though, so I don't have a good sense for which of these are most natural. they're just what I've heard and seen. How To Say 'Nice To Meet You' In French
February 15, 2022 - We can tell that it means “it was a pleasure to…” because the verb était is the French verb être in the past tense. For this reason, we reserve this phrase until the end of the meeting to express that the past action of meeting someone was great. If you want to know how to say “nice to speak to you” slightly differently, you could even say c’était bien agréable de pouvoir vous parler.
