I've decided to upgrade from my Sony a7, but I'm cut up on whether to go with Canon or Nikon, I mainly do landscape photography with sometimes doing street photography. I also want to get into more night time photography. I can get either at a similar price with the z7ii being a little bit cheaper, I've heard the autofocus on the z7ii isn't the best but I didn't think that would affect me since i only shoot photos and not videos

Hi there.
I was just wondering which camera is really better for my use case. I would like to take high-quality HDR stills, but also be able to occasionally record in 4K. I couldn't really find any good source on how good the timelapse feature is on the EOS R5, but the 8K recording and bigger sensor size made it very attractive to me. How's the battery life on both of these devices? I heard the R5 has a relatively short battery and has overheating issues, whilst the Z7 has excellent battery life with both stills and video capture. I really have difficulty choosing between the two of them, could someone help me out? 😅
Hi! I’m deep into the rabbit hole of choosing my first digital camera, and I’m stuck on the r7 and z5ii. Right now the r7 goes for 1400 euros and the sigma 18-50 for 540. The z5ii is more expensive at 1700 for the camera and 800~ for the 24-120 f4. I like that the r7 has greater range due to the crop and also a higher mp count, but I also like that the Z5ii has better image quality and low light performance. I also think Nikon as a company and their lenses are more interesting. If I could buy the r7 with the Nikon 180-600 life would be great, but they only have the 100-500 which is very expensive and the 200-800 which can’t really out resolve a 32mp crop sensor. Should I be considering the Z50II as well? Someone please push me in the right direction here
How do the cameras compare for a travel-landscape photographer??
I would probably say if you're able to check them out in person, just do that and see how you like the handling. In reality, image quality is most likely going to be a coin toss.
The R5 has some clear advantages - 8K video and auto wildlife focus being the big ones. I expect neither of those matter at all for a travel / landscape photographer.
The Z7 ii has a huge advantage - it's nearly $1000 cheaper. Unless you're way richer than I am, it's safe to say this one matters.
Image quality, capabilities, lens selection, and such are otherwise going to be so similar that I don't think they're really important factors in this comparison.
The big remaining issue is handling. Nikon and Canon ergonomics are quite different, and it's just down to a matter of opinion which one you prefer. If you can, try them both out. I personally very much doubt that the Canon will prove to be almost $1000 better for you, but it's worth handling them in person to be sure.
So I am reaching the end of my Bachelor's education and want to begin a career in motorsport and automotive photography. I was hooked ever since I found out you can make a living taking pictures of race cars. I want to set myself up for the next few years and have a reliable camera that I can grow with as I have with my Sony a6500. I have very few native Sony lenses, so I am not worried about moving to a new brand, but more about which one I want to jump into. I have some Nikon glass as I shoot lots of film on my F5 and have been adapting that to the Sony. My budget is $3,000 (tax included) and I've settled for the Canon R5 or Nikon Z7ii. Which of these cameras would suit the fast-paced and often dirty conditions that can come in Motorsports?
$3000 will get you only an R5 body, but a Z7 II body, lens, and maybe a lens adapter. The closest Nikon equivalent to the R5 is the Z8.
$3k will get you a pretty good lens for the a6500. Just remember the quality of a well composed photo is far more dependent on the photographer, then the lens and finally on the camera. No need to waste money on video capabilities if you need good photos. The only thing you might deem essential is a dual card camera but this isn’t wedding photography. You have plenty of time at a race event to take lots of photos and unless you need crowd shots in the background, you can get lots of good shots during practice and qualifying sessions too.
I am looking to upgrade from a Canon 70D. I don't take videos. I mostly take portrait and landscape. I think the r7 would be a nice upgrade?
Should I upgrade to a full frame camera? If so, is the z5 a better choice than the r8?
I'm would like the camera to have reliable auto focus as well
Can anyone give me some advice, thanks :)
I am on the edge of getting a camera soon as I want to start photography with a proper camera during my vacation in Italy this October.
Now am I doubling between the Nikon Z6 III and the Canon EOS R6 Mark II.
After my vacation I will use it for making photos of all kinds except of people. I like to take photos of buildings, nice cars that I see, trains, churches and when a clear night sky from the stars. I know Canon might be easier for beginners but I am up to a challenge. And which brand has better lenses (both the “budget friendly” ones and the better ones.
Right now I use my iPhone 15 Pro Max.
On the verge of buying a Canon R5 Mark II - talk me off the ledge on why I shouldn’t get a z8/z9 instead. Have been a Nikon guy for forever and currently my go to is a D850.
