Even if Z8 and Z9 are almost same, but for similar price, the Z9 gives more value, in terms of vertical grip, battery life, 2nd CFxB slot, GPS etc. And as you said, we don't know Nikon's firmware strategy for Z8, but the Z9 will surely get all the bells and whistles.
