Looks like well picked collection covering multiple languages and topics. I think anybody find someting in it. Some my opinions and notes: It contains two their flasghip rust books. Rust is popular now, I recommend learning it. It seems to be usefull skill in next years. Contains some restful and interesting books like Strange Code, The Missing Readme and Learn Physics with Functional Programming Book about C# Type System is one of the newest book in the bundle and looks interesting but I did not find any reviews yet. Books about Ruby (2 books) and Perl (1 book) are quite old and ratings are mostly neutral, but I gues that they are still up to date becase these languages do not evolve significantly. It seems that bundle target intermediate and advanced programmers. Very few books for beginers, but still there are for example, Missing Readme directly targeting beginers. All books seems to be latest editions. Best rated books on (excluding books with very few ratings) are both books about rust, then secret life of programs, then missing readme. Learning physics with functional programming has low number of ratings (11), but they are all 5 star except one which is 4 star. Books with lot of negative ratings are: Bare metal C and GNU Make Publish year histogram from now to history: 2023: 4 books 2022: 4 books 2021: 3 books 2020: 0 2019: 2 books 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2008: each 1 book Some older books (GNU Make, Ruby Under a Microscope) are hard to buy now (at least on amazon.de), but they may still be interesting for readers (for example, GNU Make book is most probably up to date becase GNU make software is quite a stable). My verdict: I bought it. March 4, 2025 -

I've heard great things about the No starch press books in the past and was curious how often on a yearly cycle does humble bundles tend to release their content?

Trying to decide if the "Computer Science the Fun Way" is worth it or if I'm better off waiting for the next No starch press option. There are a couple books that interest me, but I was hoping for a different selection when I first noticed this release.

I appreciate any comments or input from those who have been using humble bundles for a while.

To me it seems slightly more boring than No Starch bundles from last year, especialy because flagship books in 36 USD tier are not rated very well. But after looking to written reviews, there is no much bad comments. To me it seems that rating is skew down (when there are few reviews, even single negative skew down overal score a lot) by complaints about print quality and unability to copy paste from Kindle edition. I guess rating will converge to better numbers over time. Only reasonable (negative) reviews for 36 USD books (I did not check other half of the books this time) says that "Writing a C Compiler" is bundle of blog post collected to book and "Effective C" is very detailed and not good for beginers (to be honest, after reading book title, I would expect that and I consider it pro, not cons) otherwise I did not find any negative written review. Additionaly, tier pricing seems fair to me. For 1 USD you get two very old books from 2006, For 10 USD you get two additional pretty good books about SW and HW architecture. For 18 USD you get bunch of other books released around 2020 (so slighly outdated, but nice books) and finally, for 36 USD you get some of their latest flagship books. Here's a list of the bundle and their tiers. I'm a sucker for these bundles, so "repeat" is whether or not I have them. Effective C I apparently don't have in second edition, however. I'm going to think it over a bit, but considering the amount of these I don't have, and my apparent desire to spend money I shouldn't, I may be purchasing this bundle. We'll see. No. | Tier | Book Title | Repeat? | 1 | $36 | The Complete Developer | No | 2 | $36 | Data Structures the Fun Way | Yes | 3 | $36 | Computer Architecture | No | 4 | $36 | Writing a C Compiler | No | 5 | $36 | Introduction to Computer Organization | Yes | 6 | $36 | Dive Into Systems | Yes | 7 | $36 | Effective C, 2nd Edition | Yes* | 8 | $36 | Graph Algorithms the Fun Way | No | 9 | $18 | The Linux Command Line, 2nd Edition | No | 10 | $18 | Computer Graphics from Scratch | No | 11 | $18 | Understanding the Machine | Yes | 12 | $18 | The Secret Life of Programs | No | 13 | $18 | Hardcore Programming for Mechanical Engineers | No | 14 | $18 | The Book of I2C | No | 15 | $10 | How Software Works | No | 16 | $10 | How Computers Really Work | No | 17 | $1 | Inside the Machine | No | 18 | $1 | Code Craft | No
