November 18, 2020How do you install a noctua nh-u12s?!
When mounting the heatsink I can only get one side to screw on ? I then pulled the heatsink out to try again and it pulled my cpu out the socket but all the pins look fine. Help More on forums.tomshardware.com

I'd strongly recommend just waiting to get the backplate back, they help a little with heat dispersion, but are mainly set as an anchor point for the heatsink so it's not pressing down heavily on your mobo. More on reddit.com

U12a installation
Sorry for another post but have I got the cooler on backwards. This seemed to align properly with the west and east sides but it looks opposite of the instructions when I looked at the top of the radiator.

There's no right or wrong way to install these unless something doesn't clear properly. I had two 92mm dual tower Noctua's on Xeon system for a while with the fans blowing up instead of back. No temperature difference between that orientation and blowing toward the back like most installs. Cheers!

So i just bought the new NH U12A, and i want to install it on AM 4 motherboard, the thing is i forgot my backplate in the place i used lo live before the pandemic, i still can make it there and take it back i still live there, but it requires time 1 day just for that backplate, so the question is, is that backplate mandatory or it just an option ? I ask because i don 't want disassemble the actual cooler just to find out it doesn't work or worse to burn my cpu and mobo. Ty

It is mandatory. The cooler mounting system screws in the backplate.
