The Evolve2 50 has Active Noise Cancelling, which is noise cancelling for the headset wearer. It does not have any effect on the microphone noise cancelling which is always active. The Evolve2 50 microphone is improved in that it will cut the mic when you are not talking. Otherwise it is pretty similar to the Evolve2 40. If you want to see a good comparison of the Evolve2 40 and 50, check this video by u/HeadsetAdvisor : https://youtu.be/i_3Vf-OPww0?t=1050 For a headset with a better microphone, check the Jabra Engage 50 II, or alternatively the Yealink UH37 or UH38. r/Jabra on Reddit: Is the external noise cancellation feature of the Jabra Evolve 2 50 microphone as bad as that of the Jabra Evolve 2 40 ?
August 30, 2023 -

After vsiting the great Jabra website last year, I decided to buy two Jabra Evolve 2 40 for my team.

Indeed, their website showed a sample with and without noise canceling from the point of view of the interloc at the other end of the line. The sample was impressive with a background noise canceled from about 80%. It is the feature why I bought them.

Unfortunatelly, after trying from any device and any operating system in any situation, I can say that it was just advertisement : background noise cancelation never worked on both of the two Jabras.

There is no way to activate it, we need to 'trust' Jabra, whereas my customers could clearly hear even the weakest sound 10 meters away...

BUT ! I checked again the Jabra website today and they apparently change the Evolve 2 40 webpage ! The background noise cancelation seems to have been removed...

I also saw that a new Evolve 2 50 was out which included a noise cancelation button; background cancelation is also promoted on it's page contrary to the Evolve 2 40 webpage...

For this reason, I ask to Jabra Evolve 2 50 owners : Does the background noise cancelation feature of the Evolve 2 50 works as the Jabra webpage says or is it just advertisement like they used to do with the Evolve 2 40 ?

Thanks for your answers !

ANC technology produces its own sound waves that are equal in amplitude but opposite in phase to the external sounds, thereby canceling them out or in simple terms ANC uses microphones on the earbuds to pick up external noise and then generates a sound wave that is the exact opposite of the incoming sound, effectively canceling it out.

r/Jabra on Reddit: Which Jabra headset eliminates background noise best?
April 18, 2022 -

Hi! Me and my partner both work from home and have only 1 room available. We have meetings at the same time sometimes and need good noise cancelling mics. We are thinking about Jabra Biz 1500 or 2300 and Jabra Evolve 20 or 40 as they are in our budget. Which set will be best for cancelling background noise? Thanks in advance for help!

r/Jabra on Reddit: Does Jabra Evolve2 65 has a noise-cancelling microphone or not?
November 19, 2021 -

Hi all,

TLDR; subject line has the question

Long story: I recently bought the Evolve2 65 (coming from a wired ~40USD USB headset (Logitech), which works surprisingly well) and I loved it. All the bells and whistles, well integrated with Windows, the dongle provides feedback on the stereo sounds and mute information, comfortable, good audio quality, the works.

But soon after I started using it, someone in the call said that there was a lot of noise on my end (I usually only have another person in meetings in the room and she doesn't talk that loudly). After searching what it could be, I thought I had found the issue: Zoom was increasing my microphone value (sensitivity) to the max. So I reduced that and locked it, but then everything was low volume, both my voice and "things around me".

I reached out to Jabra support, they simply said that "As the Evolve2 65 has no ANC the only way to filter the ambient noise is to position the microphone properly in front of the mouth." which I found really odd for that answer and that a device of this value wouldn't have that feature.

I tried to explain that ANC and Mic Noise Cancellation were 2 different features, with no progress whatsoever, and ended up with an answer of "I understand you are not happy with the answer but it does not change the fact that the answer provided was correct". So, suffice to say, it didn't go anywhere.

It really looks like the headset has a Noise Canceling Microphone, with both a microphone facing the face and another facing out for that purpose like many other office-oriented headsets. I saw reviews of the headset with microphone tests, and mine is performing poorly compared to what I saw in the reviews.

I like everything else in the headset, just wanted some assurance that this was a faulty unit. I'm still returning it but the support's answer makes me not want to buy it again since, if the support answer is correct, I need a noise cancelling mic and this headset doesn't have one.

So, giving them the benefit of a doubt, does anyone know if this headset has a noise cancelling microphone or not? and if not, what are the little wholes facing out in the mic boom?

Regards

I found this thread trying to solve the problem of too much gain on this Jabra device. I got a complaint while working from home that my kids were really loud in the background, so I spent some time trying to sound proof the room I work in. Nothing I did kept the noise down. I tested by setting the headset to "listen" to the mic in Volume properties so I could hear what the mic was picking up. I could hear my dog breathing in his sleep across the room even when the kids weren't there! The sensitivity was up WAY too high. By checking in headset properties > Levels, the slider was at 100% and would go back up automatically every time I moved it down manually, even with all of the communication apps closed. I realized it must be the headset itself that was causing the gain to rise and it must be way off in its calibration. I tried to getting the headset to automatically lower the mic level by talking loudly, but that wasn't enough. Frustrated, I shouted into the mic, and only at the very loudest peaks did it drop from 100 to 98. Seeing this, I covered the mic and shouted into my hand. Because I still had it on "listen", the speakers in the headset maxed out and started clipping, but the headset started dropping the mic sensitivity. I raised my voice until it had dropped the level to 2 and stopped to listen. I could no longer hear my dog, or my air conditioner in the background. With the Headset level at 2, I can still be heard clearly and the background noise is finally gone. I'm guessing they calibrated this mic at the factory with a chainsaw.

Hello u/Traditional-Turnip76 , The Jabra Evolve2 65 does have a noise-canceling microphone. With the Evolve2 65's intelligent 3-microphone call technology and flexible boom arm, your headset will deliver incredible open office call performance, with 23% less background conversation noise on your calls. We reserve the headset's Active Noise Cancelation functionality for the headset user only. We hope this provides a better explanation of the Jabra Evolve2 65's microphone functionality.
