Non-toxic Climbing Vines - HelpfulGardener.com
We're hoping to put up 350' of chain link fence this weekend and I would like to have a climbing vine to make the area look nicer but be non-toxic to my dogs. Does anyone know of any fast growing perennial climbing vines? Can be with or without flowers, as long as it's pleasing to the eye. I'm in zone 6b and the area gets full sun. Thank you ... Morning Glories are nice, but make sure you like them because you will probably have the forever. ... Almost any "fast-growing" vine is classified as an invasive plant.

Beginner Gardening: Know of perennial climbing vines NOT toxic to dogs?
I think Carolina Jasmine and honeysuckle are non toxic. I have Jasmine along our deck which the dogs leave alone now that they are established. When I first planted them our Jack Russel kept digging them up (she does that to all freshly trurned dirt) but she never got sick. Our neighbor planted honeysuckle along thier chain link fence. As fearful as his wife is about the outdoors I doubt he would have planted anything that was even slightly toxic to kids or dogs.

Campsis 'Galen' is another choice, a great plant and would also require a support system seperate from the kennel. It can grow to lengths of 30 feet. Keep in mind these blooms will draw bees and other animal life (Humming Birds) other birds to nest. The bees may not be good to have so close in some folks opinons. If the climbing vines are kept close enough to provide shade and fragrance but placed far enough away, the bee problem would be minimal.

Of course there is always the ultimate climbing weed, (Bindweed, the large flowered one). I don't think that would be toxic, and it is certainly vigorous! P.S. I do have a couple young Jasminum angulare in my backyard. They are fairly small but blooming and have not bothered me at all so far. But be careful when looking at jasmines - night/day blooming, cape, and carolina jasmines are all toxic to animals. You want to be sure that the plant is in the jasminum family.
