Normal blood pressure for adult women is generally defined as less than 120/80 mm Hg, though ideal ranges vary by age and individual health factors.
According to age-specific data, the average normal readings for women are approximately 110/68 mm Hg for ages 18–39, 122/74 mm Hg for ages 40–59, and 139/68 mm Hg for those aged 60 and older. While a reading of 90/60 mm Hg is often considered the lower threshold for normal blood pressure, values consistently below this may indicate hypotension.
Blood pressure categories for women align with general adult guidelines:
| Category | Systolic (mm Hg) | Diastolic (mm Hg) |
| Normal | Less than 120 | Less than 80 |
| Elevated | 120–129 | Less than 80 |
| Stage 1 Hypertension | 130–139 | 80–89 |
| Stage 2 Hypertension | 140 or higher | 90 or higher |
| Hypertensive Crisis | Higher than 180 | Higher than 120 |
It is important to note that blood pressure tends to rise with age, and women may experience a faster increase in blood pressure compared to men. For individuals with conditions like diabetes or kidney disease, a target blood pressure of below 120/80 mm Hg is often recommended.
ELI5: Blood pressure readings
In an adult, the top (systolic) number should be no more than 120 mmHg. Above that is considered "pre-hypertension", with hypertension defined as greater than 140mmHg. The bottom (diastolic) number should be no more than 80 with higher than 90 considered hypertension.
The difference between your top and bottom numbers is called your pulse pressure. If your pulse pressure is very narrow (the difference between the two numbers is very small) it usually indicates left ventricular impairment as that chamber of your heart is unable to pump much above your diastolic pressure. A wide pulse pressure (the numbers are very far apart) could be indicative of other disorders or issues.

Let’s discuss , why are some places around the world saying 140/90 is normal but in the US it’s 120/80
TIL that the normal blood pressure for young adults is actually less than the 120/80, around 110/70. Blood pressures of 90/60 or less are regarded as low blood pressure.
People in very good physical shape often have bp at 90/60. If you go to donate blood, they'll often turn you away because it is so low.
