"unsafe" vs. "not safe" | UsingEnglish.com ESL Forum
June 12, 2011 - ' It is, however, safe for some. and "The stock market is unsafe for everyone." It is dangerous for all. Click to expand... Compare: Not everyone likes chocolate.......Everyone dislikes chocolate. ... You've stated the difference well. And you've compared it to "dislike" versus "not like," which I think works. Is there any way to make sense of why we know "not safe" means something different from "unsafe" in this context and why we know "dislike" can mean something different from "not like"?

r/backrooms on Reddit: What's the difference between unsafe and unsecure?
January 16, 2024 -
Hi! I'm new to this community, and I have seen that many levels are classified as "unsafe" and "unsecure".
To clarify, English is not my native language, that's why I have the question
Because in my language (Spanish), at least to my English knowledge for translation, both are translated to the same word (inseguro).
So what refers to unsafe and what to unsecure?
(Marked as discussion because there isn't a mark for question, which is what I have, and that's the closest to it)

I could be wrong, but from my understanding safety refers to the amount/types of entities, while security refers to the environment of the level itself (teams have explored it and determined it's pretty much just what it looks like and there are no extreme events that will occur. Level 0 is secure because they know that's all it is: a bunch of yellow walls and annoying lights)

From wikidot: Safety is how dangerous the level is in general. If a level is marked "unsafe," it means the level is very difficult to travel through or live in. This can include entity count, poor environmental conditions, or hostile people. Security describes how well-mapped a level is, as well as how easy it is to travel through. A level marked "unsecure" means the level has problems with unexplored areas, dangerous terrain, or lack of other people. Level 0 is both safe and secure because 1) there aren't many entities at all and 2) the terrain is predictable and somewhat mapped out by now. Level 6 (Lights Out) is unsure about entities but is unsecure because no one lives there and the caves have not been mapped out (AFAIK). Level 13 (Infinite Apartments) is unsafe because there are clumps, smilers, etc. However, the level is secure because BNTG has a base and people live here.
