r/feedthebeast on Reddit: [Enigmatica 2] Nuclearcraft 5x5x5 LEU235O 69.2kRF/t
January 27, 2019 -

You need a compact main reactor for your base? You have too much uranium? You cannot yet make fusion reactor or Draconic Reactor?

Put away the Big Reactors and let NuclearCraft into your life.

With the miracle of Active Coolingโ„ข, this reactor produces an average of 69284.7 RF/t when fed with a continuous supply of liquid cryotheum and LEU-235 oxide. (With a mob farm and Thermal Expansion, liquid cryotheum is almost renewable!)

A high cell count of 70 allows this reactor to operate as an effective breeder, while a high RF/t per cell of 989.8 ensures maximal utilization of your fuel.

Found using nuclearcraft-fission and a whole lot of luck.

Design intended for Enigmatica 2 config. I believe it remains valid for stock config, but have not validated this. Design not validated for stock config due to different fission_active_cooler_max_rate; probably still works but you could probably do better too.

Important statistics:

  • Cells: 70

  • Efficiency: 591.2%

  • Heat: 1688.1%

  • Total Cooling: -73600 H/t

Warnings:

  • Requires redstone safety loop for LEU-235O operation.

  • Do NOT allow the cryotheum feed to deplete. If you do, you're going to have a bad time.

  • Strongly recommended to add a secondary safety interlock that shuts off the reactor in the absence of surplus cryotheum dust.

May 27, 2019 -

Yes, 144kRF/t with a simple 5x5x5 LEU235 reactor with cheap, automatic quartz cooling.

  1. Let's start with the Reactor:

Simple (I can't stress this enoug :P) 5x5x5 reactor with 45 44 (wrong number!) reactor cells, 30 moderator blocks and 20 active cooler.

With the setup I found I can leave this beast running at full power and still have -1260H/t. So yeah, if I decide I'm not satisfied enough I will maybe provide an edit with an EVEN better setup. But I don't think I could improve much in this formfactor.

I don't need as much power I currently use, so I have a XNet Controller turn it off when the internal battery of the Reactor reaches 50%. It's currently turning on and off all the time, so I guess it's saving fuel. Yay.

See the pictures below to see the reactor build in layers.

2. The Reactor Setup is only half of the beauty of this build:

The real bringer here is the fact that it is so easy to setup without any cryotheum or molten enderpearls.

You could do a slight modification to the design by adding moderator blocks into the empty spaces (the output would be 201kRF/t then) and increasing the size of the reactor so you could add more active cooler, but I like the formfactor and the fact I can use more of them if I need to because the resource gathering is amazing and completely RIDICIOULUS.

Pictures of the fetup are provided in the Link below with the reactor, but I will type the process roughly out.

First the fuel:

  1. A quarry in the end gathers endstone that's crushed next to the generator and sieved into uranium.

  2. The uranium is processed into LEU235! Easy right?

Now it's time for the fun stuff: Molten Quartz

  1. A cobblestone generator feeds cobblestone to a macerator that'ss turning it into sand, that sand is transformed into soul sand by an atomic reconstructor.

  2. The soul sand is then sieved to produce Quartz.

  3. Melt it.

  4. Profit?

  5. PROFIT!

It's that simple!

And you can easily power 3 of these monsters if you'd want to with a single production line and speed upgrades!

I am currently working on using the depleted fuel and powering a second Fission Reactor.

If I even need to...

Here are the pictures.

Have fun!

EDIT:

The last picture is wrong. You need to remove one reactor cell to let a fluiduct through from the side and so you have less heat building up. You should let the Liquid in from the side.

Fission Reactor - Official Feed The Beast Wiki
1 month ago - Each block inside a Fission Reactor either creates power (RF) and heat (H), removes heat, or modifies the way in which the blocks interact. The position of blocks relative to each other is very important. Some blocks get boosts from being adjacent to others, some won't work unless adjacent to another. Jox, a member of the NuclearCraft Discord server, created a spreadsheet that both assisted with Fission Reactor calculations and tabulated the products of fuel reprocessing.

r/feedthebeast on Reddit: [NuclearCraft 1.7e] Fission Reactor Calculation + Spreadsheet
June 12, 2016 -

Hi. Yesterday I started playing with Nuclearcraft and spent most of the time in Creative with it. Here is some fast notes I made. I'm not sure if it is common knowledge or if all is correct, but maybe someone finds this helpful. I used all of I found in spreadsheet, which I provide in the end. It helps calculate number of cells inside reactor for a start.

Power: Fission Reactor produces power based on its size, fuel used, number of cells inside and number of connections between cells. Here is formula I made:

  • RF/t = Base Cell RF x Reactor Mult. x Connected Mult. x Nr of Cells

  • Base Cell RF - found in NEI

  • Reactor Mult. - internal size (1, 3, 5, 7, etc.)

  • Connected Mult. - n+1, where n is number of cells touching

  • Nr of Cells - Number of cells with this many connections

So for example: 5x5x5 Reactor, with 3 cells connected to each other, using HEU fuel will produce:

  • 400 RF/t x 5 x (2+1) x 1 + 400 RF/t x 5 x (1+1) x 2 = 14000 RF/t

or: 7x7x7 Reactor, with 2 cells connected and 5 other cells connected in plus shape, using HEU fuel will produce:

  • 400 RF/t x 7 x (4+1) x 1 + 400 RF/t x 7 x (1+1) x 6 = 47600 RF/t

Heat: Reactor will produce heat based on fuel used, number of cells inside and number of connections between cells. From NEI description heat should be higher also the bigger the Reactor is, but it is not from what I saw. So, formula is:

  • H/t = Base Cell Heat x Connected Mult. x Nr of cells

  • Base Cell Heat - found in NEI

  • Connected Mult. - (n+1)(n+2)/2 where n is number of cells touching

  • Nr of Cells - Number of cells with this many connections

Example again: 7x7x7 Reactor, with 4 cells connected in line, using HEU fuel:

  • 640 H/t x (2+1)(2+2)/2 x 2 + 640 H/t x (1+1)(1+2)/2 x 2 = 9= 11520 H/t

Graphite: can be used to increase power of Reactor in cost of higher heat output. It's placement in Reactor Chamber doesn't matter, but power and heat output depend of number of Fuel Cell Compartments in Reactor.

  • each Graphite produces 40 RF/t per Fuel Cell Compartment

  • each Graphite produces 80 H/t per Fuel Cell Compartment

so far I didn't play much with it. It's function seems more to tune things up and to squish as much as possible from Reactor. I guess it's a lot more usefull in bigger Reactors (>9x9x9).

Coolers: there is so far 8 Coolers.

  • Standard (-30 H/t, -60 H/t when connected to other Standard Cooler) and Water Coolers (-30 H/t, -60 H/t when connected to Casing)seem good only for the early game

  • Redstone Cooler (-80 H/t, -160 H/t when connected to Fuel Cell Compartments) is the best one to put around your Fuel Cells, in my testing I used this one to fill any empty block inside

  • Liquid Helium Cooler (-125 H/t no matter what) would be best to fill any empty spots, but it's one which is hardest to obtain, so I didn't use it for standard tests

  • Coolant Reactor Cooler (-80 H/t, -169 H/t when adjacent to water source block), it's really good when 6 surround 1 water block, but in any other situation, especially when trying to fill entire level with it, there's nearly no difference when using any other -80 H/t Cooler

  • Enderium (-80 RF/t, -160 RF/t when touching Graphite) and Glowstone Coolers (-80 RF/t, -320 RF/t when surrounded with Graphite) are the only option when playing with Graphite

  • Cryotheum Cooler (-80 RF/t, -160 RF/t when not touching any other block) is not very good now, but in next version it will double when not touching any other Cryotheum Cooler making it super viable to fill in empty spots

Spreadsheet: Those are the basics I found during testing. I tried to find some way to build a "sketch" Reactor of given size from which I can start on improving. Building even 9x9x9 Reactor and trying to fill it in by guessing seemed a bit overwhelming so I created this spreadshit.

Here it is.

That's how it works: fill in yellow fields (base heat of fuel, inside size of reactor and base RF/t of fuel). All results are in blue fields:

  • Cell Compartment column tells you how many of given Cell Designs to put inside Reactor. For example "6x" means one cell connected on every side with one other cell; "1x" are 2 cells next to each other and so on

  • Blocks column are of course number of blocks needed

  • RF/t - I guess you know ;)

Build this many Cell Designs as said, not touching each other of course, surround them with Redstone Coolers and fill the rest of empty cells with Redstone Coolers or any better (Liquid Helium). Reactor build like this will probably be few thousand Heat below 0, maybe even more because whole spreadsheet rounds down, just to be safe. From this you can start adding more Cells in place of Coolers or adding Graphite, to get so close to 0 as possible.

I hope it's all understandable and will be helpful to someone ;)

Edit.: While writing it TLJGames (u/turbodiesel4598) responded on MCF to me clearing up few things and making me realize I didn't see changelog about Reactor size. They don't have to be cubic anymore...

What's the max size for the fission reactor, and what's the expected RF/t of that? I'm trying to charge up my Infinity drill, and I'm at the point where resources are not a concern.

Also Extreme Reactor's big reactor didn't work, fuel rods cause way too much lag, I literally get 2 fps when looking at a 48x30x30 reactor, had to remove it from the world with worldedit, is it supposed to work this way?
