Null Island - Wikipedia
2 days ago - Natural Earth describes the entity as a "1 meter square island" (11 sq ft) with "scale rank 100, indicating it should never be shown in mapping". The name "Null" refers to the two zero coordinates, as null values (indicating an absence of data) are often coerced to a value of 0 when converted to an integer context or "no-nulls allowed" context.
At the point on Earth's surface at 0° latitude and 0° longitude (0°N 0°E, or in the Gulf of Guinea), there, there is a location called "Null Island," but there's no actual island. The location is marked by a permanently-moored weather buoy.
I love this stuff. Human exploration at its finest. "Look, 0-0-0! Let's put a buoy here". 👌 More on reddit.com
This is null island, a permanent buoy marking where the equator and prime meridian intersect. at zero degrees latitude and zero degrees longitude (0°N 0°E)
Fun fact: Tons of pictures etc get upload with the geotag on this exact location. That's because when some cameras can't identify your location, they save the location as Null;Null, meaning unidentifiable. When you upload those pics, the data can be misinterpreted as 0°00"00'N;0°00"00'E, resulting in the geotag showing this location, in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. More on reddit.com

July 6, 2021 - The robot – a form of artificial intelligence that controls the cameras and has been living there for a long time – cannot detect the sphere and this disagreement about what is being seen triggers more subjective and existential conversations between scientist and robot. The temporality in Null Island is fluid, going back-and-forth; present and past refers to a hypothetical future that depends on the viewer’s interactive choices.

Null Island Is a Fake Island Where the Prime Meridian and Equator Meet
August 7, 2025 - A busy island at the center of the world that doesn’t actually exist. You’ve got a list of geocoded data points, but due to error or omission, one of them has nothing set as its location. It may still show up on a map. If so, look for its pin to drop on a very specific place in the international waters off the Gulf of Guinea: Null Island.
