What is Null?
This was intended as a meme but is actually a good representation of what "Null" is. In C#, when you declare string s = "My shit"; it means that "s" is a reference to a memory location that holds the data "My shit". string s = null; means that the reference "s" exists but it's not pointing to any object, as in it holds nothing. ——— was slang by Null
Null, in many computer programming languages including Java, is a placeholder value for nothing. So let’s say there’s a bit of code that makes that death message (Oversimplified explanation follows): It first checks “who died” by running another bit of code that tells it who died. So then it prints ‘“name” was slain by’. Then it checks “who killed him.” But for some reason, the bit of code that tells it who did the killing didn’t run properly. Something stopped it from getting the actual name, but it still had to say something. So it adds the placeholder value “null,” which means “no one” or “idk” or “something weird happened and i don’t know what.” Then that gets printed instead of the name, so the whole thing becomes “name was slain by null” In short, it’s a bug. Null is not a player, it’s just a sign that an error occurred that the game devs didn’t account for. (You might also have heard of nullPointerExceptions. These are very closely related, except the NullPointerException generally happens when they try to do something with a null value more than just printing it. Like in this case if the game tried to teleport Null rather than just print it) More on reddit.com

NULL Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster
Let’s be honest: null is kind of a nothing word. That’s not a judgment—it was literally borrowed into English from the Anglo-French word nul, meaning "not any." That word, in turn, traces to the Latin word nullus, from ne-, meaning "not," and ullus, meaning "any."
