I know this gets asked a lot but I’m overwhelmed by what features to get in a nursing chair. Since this is a more expensive purchase i dont want to end up with one i dont like
Please recommend your favorite chair and what features you love about it
Additional questions I have:
Does anyone find the rocking feature useful?
I know people say get one that reclines, but does it make you fall asleep on it too easily?
What is the benefit of a glider, I’m a bit confused by the purpose of having a chair that glides but doesn’t rock? Does the gliding soothe the baby?
Thank you!
I'm struggling to find a rocking chair that is both comfortable and affordable. I didn't realize how expensive they could get until I started looking around, it seems like the price points are very polarized, either it is extremely cheap and low quality, or they work well but cost more than the hospital bill or first year of diapers...with little to no in between. I see a lot of posts with people saying you need one that:
Swivels 360 and rocks
Has good cushioning
Is tall enough to rest your head back
Doesn't make a ton of noise
Can be cleaned easily
Has a reclining feature that doesnt require a donkey kick to make the feet go up and down
....and so on and I'm...overwhelmed. It looks like anything close to that description is four figures in price, which I'm surprised anyone can afford. I started by looking at some classic wooden gliders, but for most of them the reviews say they aren't comfortable or break really easily. Has that been most people's experience? Is it worth it to splurge on something better? And if so, what features (either on that list above or not) are actually important/worth the money? And where is it ok to compromise/sacrifice if it means bringing the price down by a few hundred bucks? Any specific chair recommendations that people love, or just general recommendations of places to look?
Lastly, how much do you actually use the rocker? It seems like opinions vary, some folks say it rarely gets used while others say the practically lived in them 24/7. Parents who have been through this process....what are your thoughts? I know that's a ton of questions so thanks for bearing with me, I'm just in a mini panic mode over here <3
Edit: So many responses, thank you all for the wonderful advice! I'm going to look around and see what some nicer secondhand options are (and what cleaning services are available in our area), but based on how far away our couch is from the nursery, the layout of the room, and the fact that we have a place to put the chair if we decide to move it out, I think we will at least still plan to get one before baby arrives since you never know what baby will be like and I'd rather avoid the post-birth scramble. Odds are we'll probably end up getting either a nice one secondhand (I'm in love with the Babyletto Kiwi but new is out of our price range) or one of the Costco/Walmart/Amazon mid-range chairs folks suggested that have worked well. It is also very reassuring to hear that you can get by without one, so worst case we can throw it all to the wind. Thank you all so, so much!

I am looking for recommendations on a good nursing chair. The one we bought unfortunately is a complete lemon and squeeks and clanks when rocking or moving in it. It completely wakes the baby up. Completely frustrating since we spent $2000 dollars on it. It even has a new base added to it, but after a few months it started doing it again. And of course the company we bought it from is now no longer in business so we are SOL.
Hoping to find something comfortable for nursing and rocking the baby to sleep. A recliner isnt a must, but definitely looking for something upholstered.
TIA!
As a FTM (baby boy arriving in November of this year!), I'm looking for some guidance on what to consider and think about with a nursery chair.
Why is a reclining feature important? (or not)
Why is a swivel feature important? (or not)
Pros/cons to power recline vs manual?
Ergonomic features to consider?
Is an ottoman better than a pop-out footrest? Why?
Anything else? :)
Thank you in advance!!
I’m on my last baby and want a nice nursing chair, but am struggling with what to get. Rocking chair? Recliner? Something else? Do you have a favorite chair for nursing that is both functional and comfortable?
Wondering if anyone has recommendations for an affordable nursery chair? Location wise anywhere within the GTA would work. We are taller people so the chair would need to accommodate that. I am so overwhelmed with reviews and researching and I'd greatly appreciate guidance.
Edit to add: Thank you everyone!! I can't reply to each comment, but this has been incredibly helpful!
Trying to decide if I need a recliner/rocker or not. One of my friends says she never really used hers, nursing in bed or the living room couch instead. I’d rather save the money and not acquire another piece of furniture if it can be helped. Did you use yours?
I anticipate I’ll be spending a lot of time in it when baby comes so I’m willing to spend the money to invest in a good one. I have low back problems so looking for something firm/comfortable that also reclines.
Also- recommendation on color? I love the white/lighter colors but I’m guessing those get dirty fast and might be hard to clean? Thanks!!
I’m 25 weeks pregnant and looking to purchase the chair for our nursery asap. Comparing options is so difficult. So many reviews are people who have barely used their chairs yet, so I’m wondering could anyone tell me if you bought a chair you ended up regretting, and for what reason(s)? Things I’m wondering about: color/staining, materials, power vs manual etc.
EDIT: Wow, thank you for all the responses! I wanted to make a quick decision on this since tariffs will be raising furniture prices significantly soon. I just purchased the Chita Tracee Power Swivel Glider Recliner in faux leather, camel color. My husband is more comfortable investing in a chair that will be easier to keep clean and he ain’t wrong! I’ve seen lots of good things about this chair so hopefully it works out for us (fingers crossed) It’s currently on sale for about $550
I am looking for a nursery chair that reclines, glides/rocks, and is not treated with any sort of water repellant chemicals. It seems like every nursery chair out there is made of water repellent fabric, which I am trying to avoid because of the issues with water-repellent chemicals.
Does anyone have a chair that meets the above that they love? Bonus points if it doesn’t look horribly ugly
ETA: went with a used Dutailier glider/rocker and it’s wonderful. Thanks for the rec!!
Hi!
I'm looking to buy a nursery chair but I'm kind of blown away by the prices. I really want a recliner/glider that will work in a small space but is super cozy - ideally not a rocking chair.
I see Walmart seems to be where the price is right but I worry about the quality when I went to see one.
Im looking at the West Elm Beckett recliner right now.
Would love to hear what everyone thinks! I'm not opposed to buying used but I've been scanning marketplace for months and haven't seen what I want come up!
Hi! I’m looking to add a glider/rocking chair for our nursery. I’ve seen some lovely ones that range from $1,000-$2,000 but that’s outside of our budget.
I’m looking for something that’s $500 or less ideally. Is that realistic? Any recommendations?
I am expecting my first baby in October and I have an idea of most of my "wants" for big ticket baby items. I'm stuck on the nursery chair! I do plan to breastfeed this baby so I imagine I'll spend a lot of time in the chair. My MIL has graciously offered to gift us whatever I pick but I'm having a hard time finding something super cozy that reclines and rocks for a reasonable price.
Any recommendations on what worked for you and your family would be greatly appreciated! TIA
Hi! FTM- looking for nursery glider/recliner chair.
My current #1 is the Fluff Mummy chair, however I’m a little concerned it won’t be long/tall enough for my lanky body stretched out (6ft if anyone has any anecdotal advice here).
Secondly, I’ve heard it may be worth investing in an electric one, which doesn’t exist in the Fluff Mummy range. My only problem is I’m having trouble finding nursery chairs in FUN COLOURS (I’m really not a neutral girly). I want bright pops of colour which is the main reason I’m looking at the Fluff Mummy/daddy range.
Any and all advice appreciated 💕
I'm an FTP and considering getting the Nurture& Glider Plus in the boucle fabric (white), but my husband is concerned that it will get stained and look terrible very quickly. Does anyone have experience with white (or other very light colored) nursery chairs? I'm also considering the Babyletto Kiwi in a light color, but it doesn't seem as comfortable and might have some suspicious fabric additives. What I really wanted was the Pottery Barn Paxton chair but it won't arrive in time 😭
So for the first 9 months, my son would fall asleep to us walking him around or side lying nursing… but now all of a sudden he prefers to lay in my arms and nurse on my lap… while I manually rock him on our bed. So it is time for a glider/recliner!
I can’t decide if I want a oversized chair so we can still sit in it as he becomes a toddler or when we decide to have baby #2 or to just get a regular sized one that can rock.
I would love one that can power recline, and has armrests so I can nurse him easily.
Drop your recommendations below and tell me which ones to avoid!!
We have my grandfathers old glider in the nursery. While it’s a sweet sentiment, it’s time for the goddamn thing to go in the woodchipper… as I sit here nursing my sick 6 month old, this thing is about as comfortable as sitting on the Iron Throne looks. The bougier the better- I’m all about the plush splurge- I wish someone would have told us how much time we’d spend in this one chair!
very much aware a nursery chair isn't an absolute necessity, but i am getting slightly tired of nursing on the sofa or in bed so thought it would be nice to add a nice, comfy chair to the nursery for nursing, story time etc.
That being said - i've been looking at rockers (like the tutti bambini micah) or recliners/gliders like the obaby madison.
anyone have any experience with these or any recommendations at whats better - rocker vs glider?
