Sorry I'm very new when it comes to AMD and I know little to nothing about the company besides the fact that they rival NVIDIA. I am a streamer and I'm looking to buy an AMD RX580 (8gb) GPU and I was wondering if AMD has some sort of built in encoder that is similar to NVIDIA's NVENC. Like I said, I'm very new so please be nice. Thank you in advance.

Hi everyone,
I'm building a streaming setup for 1440p60 using a capture card (AverMedia G553 Pro) and I'm debating between using an NVIDIA GPU with NVENC encoder or an AMD GPU with AMF encoder.
My questions are:

Which encoder provides better image quality for streaming?

Has anyone had experience with AV1 encoding on both GPUs?

How stable is AMF in OBS compared to NVENC?

Is it worth paying a bit more for NVIDIA just because of the encoder?
My current setup: Ryzen 5 5600G, 16GB RAM, AverMedia capture card, and I'm planning to buy either an RTX 4060 or an RX 7600.

I have an xtx, along with 3000 series GTX card. I like the Radeon card as it is just as fast as the 4080, and depending on some games, outright beat it. It's an amazing card. The driver control panel is significantly more robust than the NVIDIA Control Panel. But it is so far behind in terms of encoding/live streaming. The quality is absolutely horrid. My 3000 GTX cards have significant better encoding quality. And that to me is what gives NVIDIA cards the edge in overall daily driver for most use cases. All this talk about AV1 is great, but at this point, I'm not going to get excited until it is mainstream and I actually see significant improvements myself. You may want to go green on this one. I know I would have had I known about the live streaming quality.

Both NV and AMD hardware encoder support changes pretty much every 6 months, you gotta update drivers, hunt down new library version if you do post processing.
