Not specific to Grim Dawn, but this is a list of things I always do when I set up or clean up someone's PC that all have small effects on performance (Note, just go to windows settings and search for these if you don't know which header they are under, etc.): Windows Settings > Notifications (Turn Everything Off, especially focus assist, etc.) Windows Settings > Power (Set to maximum performance) Windows Settings > Windows Permissions > ALL OF THEM (Turn everything Off) Windows Settings > Background Apps (win 10 only) (Turn everything off, you can selectively turn some back on if needed) Windows Settings > Startup (Turn off anything that you don't ABSOLUTELY NEED specifically at startup - remember, this doesn't stop you from opening the app later, but this will reduce crap running in the background that you forget about.) Windows Settings > Accounts > Sign In OPtions (Turn everything off - this is one most people don't seem to know about) Windows Settings > Xbox Game Bar (Turn off) Windows Settings > Game Mode (TURN ON! This actually does minimize or shut off some background stuff while gaming) Windows Update - Make sure you're fully up to date on all available items. Drivers - Make sure you're fully up to date on all available hardware drivers. GPU - Obviously make sure drivers are up to date, but also make sure that there are no general settings that will hamstring new installs... things like vSync being turned on by default (assuming you're not using a 60hz monitor, anyway), and so on. GPU - Install Afterburner. Seriously. You don't need to do any overclocking, but this app will tell you a ton about how your performance is with your GPU and you can use it to track 'oddities' if they arise. GPU - Make sure you keep your GPU management app up to date (GFE, Radeon, etc.). If you use any kind of desktop background application (like wallpaper engine, etc.) I highly recommend leaving it off and only using it when you're going to be actually viewing your desktop (like when you're showing off for your non-existent girlfriend, etc.) BIOS - For the love of Cthulhu... please make sure XMP is turned on in your BIOS. I am not exaggerating when I say that 50% of the PC's I've tuned up for people don't have this on, and immediately it's like a new computer for them. In Nvidia Control Panel > 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings : Set "Power Management Mode" to "Prefer maximum performance" Now, for Grim Dawn specifically... you said you're using NVidia, so turn on the FPS counter in GFE, then go into the app settings and maximize the optimal options (basically, max out everything), then load the game. Run some combat, see what your FPS gets up to... if it's within tolerances of what you want full time, then stick with it. If not, then slowly tweak just one or two things at at time... and your best options for tweaking in GD (and most games, really) if you still want it to feel like it's near maximum, are slightly lowering the shadows, shaders, lightning and reflections.
