Anyone have Commercial carpet recommendations for a first time business owner?
Eh, okay. So, everyone here has some really good suggestions for durability, etc. u/K0rby , you're 100% right with what you say. But, I'll offer a different perspective - u/Sivart67 didn't give us too much info on the purpose here. If you're going to have a 5-year tenant in a building, then just put in the cheap carpet and be done with it. You're probably going to have to replace it in five years again anyways. Yes, the carpet tile - it may be made to last and then you might *not* need to replace it? But that's a bit of a gamble, and the OP seemed to be asking about the cheapest option. As for timelines and supply, etc - surprisingly enough, we've looked at using Home Depot in the past with their carpet and installation options. Sometimes they were the cheapest by far. In the old days, I've even gotten my flatbed trailer and gone to the local Home Depot and gotten rolls of carpet that I installed by myself in one evening. It's not that difficult (use the mastic tape - works wonders but don't accidentally get that stuff stuck to your face!). Installing carpet is pretty easy and straightforward and hands down the way cheapest option. Hope this helps... More on reddit.com
Totally confused about carpet. Way too many choices.
Not really anything going to last 15 years, though carpet will never wear out. It only mats and crutches. Stock with nylon, more expensive but will last a lot longer. Polys will crush in about a year .and get worse in time More on reddit.com
insanely soft nylon carpet
I know the Stanton Jazzy and it's brethren are likely from Belgium (at the very least the fiber is almost certainly). Unlikely to be solution dyed. Will almost certainly have some dulling after the first cleaning (if it's anything like their other glossy carpets). Not taking care of that carpet with the correct vacuum or not vacuuming a lot is going to be really bad. My guess is like all Stanton carpets that aren't wools, is it won't wear as well, at that price to anything that Shaw or Mohawk have for 1/2 as much. Plus the warranty is like 15 year wear ( https://cdn.bfldr.com/PMOA7OGQ/at/xnfctghkb8p4g5c8ffmrrcvf/W005.pdf?format=pdf ) That's partially the catch, they don't really warranty their residential carpets, if it's not manufacturing defect in like the first year it's gong to be challenging. It's also heavy as all hell, gets wrecked in shipping because 13'2", cones like an absolute devil on an Accucut. Is guaranteed to have a broken core. I've been to a store that stocks it. I've handled a few rolls of it and it was miserable to process. It looks and feels incredible when it's installed. It's exactly what Stanton is, a luxury brand that's about looks and feel above and beyond durability and price point. You can explain all this and people will still buy it because nothing else I am aware of feels like it, which is why Stanton, Nourison, Kane, Miliken and Joy exist, because if they have what you want no one else does, but you will pay for it. My Mom wants it in her living room really bad and I wouldn't turn her, or anyone else away from it. Stanton is also supplying Jazzy or one that is similar, to distributor/s, though I cannot get anyone to confirm that it's for 100% certainty is. Usually there is more gossip than church about these kinds of things, but I cannot get the full scoop. Though both side don't want me to figure out eithers margins so I guess I understand. It's also one of Stanton better selling lines. That's pretty much what I know. Edit: For selling the product I would tell what you feel about it, give the stats show a "comparable" Smartstrand/Anso /(whatever dixie/fabrica calls their nylon now). Say hey if you are looking for warranty, Mohawk/Shaw (i have more experience with them and claims, you may have different brands) they I know they will do X for you their wording especially with pets mean there is a chance, Stanton is likely no chance, it's a nylon, it's obviously soft it's got good density and it's pure luxury, they'll make the decision and you informed them of the risks, then sleep easy. I was in a store that stocked it Lady touched it said "I want this carpet right here, it's my dream carpet," sales person explain what I said above, she said "I'm old, don't have pets, I want that carpet through my whole house" sale was like 200 yards, swiped the card no questions. Where's the value "sweet spot" for carpeting?
Generally, a good quality pad can make a crappy carpet feel good and theoretically prolong the life. I installed the cheap crappy carpet from Home Depot in my rental property. The house used to be my former primary residence, but after 10 years and 2 kids puking & spilling, the existing carpet was gone, so I had cheap carpet installed. It held up reasonably well for 3 years with my first tenant. It was showing some signs of wear, but nothing too terrible. I will probably need to replace it when my current tenant leaves (the carpet will be 6 years old). Other sections of the house still have the original carpet which is 16 years old, and it is wearing a lot better. Sub $3 will get you a carpet that will last a few years and that is it. Pay a little more and put in a better quality carpet. More on reddit.com
