Probably because it is now worn a lot by the "tumblr swag" people or whatever. I personally really hate their 'box logo' and the original design that Fairey used to put up everywhere (forgot the name of it). I got a shirt and a jacket from them. The jacket is pretty bad/mediocre quality though. More on reddit.com

I see it all the time. Some people would argue that its propaganda to subconsciously influence you to "OBEY" social trends and media. Most would just tell you its a brand name that looks cool, nothing more.
