Obey Me
One devastating example of this is what my family experienced at High Rock. I had an affair. It was wrong and I have apologized to all involved. However, the church was absolutely opposed to either my wife at the time or I attending the church at any point moving forward. In fact, they told her "if you divorce him, then you can come back". In addition, within a week of finding out about the affair, Scott told the whole church at a special meeting that he had told his kids about my affair "because he wanted to be truthful to his kids". This then caused many of the families of my kids friends to then tell their kids. This coming after every one of them, including Scott, promised to not. When my ex-wife pressed one of her friends why she betrayed her, she told her "we'll, I love you...but I love High Rock, too". In fact, "the network counselor " James Chidester told us that first week that it was wrong to tell kids, adding "some of these lead pastors are a little unprepared for this sort of thing". He then changed his opinion soon after and told us that he believed it was right for the families of the church to tell their kids because it was good for the church. I believe whole heartedly that it was an effort to poison the water and cause all of us to move away. They wanted me to disappear. To that end, it partially worked. My ex-wife took the kids across the country away from me. I always was afraid of what would happen if I didn't please people. I got my answer from the network. Loving people is something that the network wants to say they live out...but it is only after loyalty and devotion.... obedience to the leaders. Even a professional counselor is not exempt. When the word is spoken...he had to obey. More on reddit.com
What does obedience to God mean?
The way to obey God is by walking in His way, which is the way to know Him and Jesus by being in His likeness through being a doer of His character traits, and which is the way back to the Tree of Life (John 17:3). For example, in Genesis 18:19, God knew Abraham that he would teach his children and those of his household to walk in His way by being a doer of righteousness and justice that the Lord might bring to him all that He has promised. An arrow flies true when it hits it mark, our mark to is to walk in God's way, and God's law is truth (Psalms 119:142) because it is His instructions for how to walk in His way (1 Kings 2:1-3) while sin is missing the mark, is contrary to God's way, and is the transgression of God's law (1 John 3:4). The Spirit has the role of leading us in truth (John 16:13) and the role of leading us to obey God's law (Ezekiel 36:26-27) because God's character traits are the fruits of the Spirit. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3), which he expressed through is works by setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to God's law, so he is the way, the truth, and the life, and the way to see and know the Father (John 14:6-12). So that is the way to have fidelity to truth. Likewise, the way to love God is by walking in His way. For example, the way to love justice is by being a doer of justice in obedience to His law, the way to love holiness is by being a doer of God's law for how to be holy as He is holy, and so forth. So everything that God has commanded was in order to teach us how to love different aspects of His character, which is why the Bible repeatedly states that the way to love God is by obeying His commandments. So that is the way to have fidelity to love. Moreover, the way to believe that God is a doer of a particular trait is by being in His likeness through being a doer of that trait in obedience to His law, so God's way is also the way to believe in Him and Jesus. This is why there are many verses that connect our obedience to God with our belief in him, such as in Revelation 14:12, those who kept faith in Jesus are the same as those who kept God's commandments.
