Hey everyone,
I've been looking into Obsidian as a note-taking tool, and I'm curious—what makes it stand out compared to other options like Notion, OneNote, or Logseq? I’ve heard a lot about the local-first approach and the flexibility with plugins, but I’d love to hear from actual users about what makes it great for you.
Also, since plugins seem to be a huge part of what makes Obsidian powerful, what are some must-have plugins for someone just getting started? I’m especially interested in organization, automation, and making notes more interactive.

I’ve been in tech for 20+ years. My simple answer is fuck every other app that reduces data portability. Obsidian lets me quickly jot notes in my preferred format, Markdown, and then do whatever I want with it. It’s that simple. Start with no plugins. When you see something that is slowing you down regularly then ask if a plugin could help out. Plugins can be great, but lots of folks fall into the trap of trying to make Obsidian do everything, and then spend more time tweaking the app than taking notes.
